3 arctic fox pup siblings! Wanna learn more about them? Read below. Although arctic foxe populations are stable in most parts of the world, they are critically endangered in Norway, Sweden, and Finland. There are less than 200 foxes left in those three countries combined. As you’d guess, it’s due to humans. Particularly in winter months when these foxes turn white, their fur becomes highly valued. Poaching for their fur had nearly wiped them out but, as of 2022, successful breeding programs are helping them rebound. - - - #northpole #norway #northpoleexperience #arctic #arcticcircle #arcticfox #arcticlife #arcticwildlife #wildlifephotography #wildlifeplanet #naturephotographer #polarbear #polarbears #polarbearswim #puffin #arcticfoxhaircolor #arcticfoxes #foxpup #foxpups #babyfox #babyanimals #babyanimalstagram by @matthewlai906
At the 1500ft summit of Cadillac Mountain at 4AM, this beautiful song sparrow sang to signal the rising sun. This mountain was originally inhabited by the Wabanaki People who named this place Wapuwoc, “white mountain of the first light.” @yaifaiysmile ty for the bts footage 😆 - - #acadia #acadianationalpark #birdfreaks #birding #birdingphotography #birdingdaily #naturephoto #warblersofinstagram #songsparrow #sparrows #sparrow #canonphotography #canon5d by @matthewlai906
This intimate moment between mother and cub was taken right after a brutal fight against a large male polar bear. In warm seasons, food is scarce, and bears will need fight one another for every meal. Posting a cub and her mom cuz that’s what birthdays are all about! I’m 25 now…so… old… 👴🏻 More on polar bears below! Did you know that polar bear hunting is still legal in Canada? Polar bear harvesting is widely seen as unsustainable due to “reverse selection.” The bears that fetch the highest price are the largest, and often most healthy specimens. Oddly enough, 70% of polar bear exports go to China, making it the biggest global market for polar bear products. Now, the model to watch is Svalbard (Norway) where polar bear hunting has been banned since 1973, resulting in a stable population. - - - - - - - #northpole #norway #northpoleexperience #arctic #arcticcircle #arcticlife #arcticwildlife #wildlifephotography #wildlifeplanet #naturephotographer #polarbear #polarbears #polarbearswim #babyanimals #babyanimalstagram #polarbearcub #bearcub #bearcubs #polarbearcubs by @matthewlai906
Bloom, flower boy, bloom. Bloom, through pain, bloom. Bloom, beyond memory, bloom. Bloom, into our wildest dreams, bloom. Flower Boy, coming soon 🌼 by @matthewlai906
Heartbroken to hear of the passing of the brilliant and wise @waichinghohknyc Not long ago, I directed a film about my grandmother and Wai played her in the film. When my grandma passed, Wai would check in on me frequently long after we wrapped. I was continually struck by her generosity and warmth. It was such an honor to be in the presence of someone so full of wisdom and grace. To witness her on stage and screen. I wanted to share a small piece of the film we made here and celebrate the incredible human she was. Rest in peace, Wai. by @matthewlai906

The American Woodcock has migrated to NYC! This is the best holiday of the year! 🤭 While this celebrity bird is related to sandpipers, it spends most of its time camouflaged in the underbrush looking for bugs to eat. - - - #woodcock #americanwoodcock #bryantpark #bryantparkholidaymarket by @matthewlai906
Someone could use some moisturizer! 😧 The Painted Stork is a spectacular water-dwelling bird we found while exploring Thailand's wetlands during breeding season. As they get older, their faces shed feathers, revealing bald red skin underneath. At this age, they look like living dinosaurs, with the size to match. From trash to milk. 🥛 A Pigtail Macaque mother nurses her baby as she eats trash from the side of the road. (Khao Yai National Park, Thailand) The story behind these endangered monkeys is so controversial, it's hard to know where to start! They have cultural perceptions ranging from smart and adaptive, to being sacred and holy, to being downright pests. In ages past, these monkeys were considered representatives of Hanuman (the iconic deity of Hindu and Thai cultures). However, in recent times, these macaques are seen as pests, stealing food from unwitting tourists. In Thailand, there are even 'human-macaque task forces' created to combat the spread of these animals. These monkeys will even barter with you, stealing your phone or snatching the glasses off your face, demanding food in return for your belongings (it's a common occurrence in Taiwan, where park rangers will charge you a few bucks per banana). Despite this reputation, the truth is that macaques are considered endangered throughout Asia due to habitat loss and hunting. They've simply moved out of their shrinking forest environments and into human settlements, contributing to the misperception that their numbers are rising. They've now become so accustomed to human food that they prefer it over their natural diet. Invasive species or assimilation? You be the judge! #macaque #monkey #thailandwildlife #wildlifephoto #monkeyseemonkeydo by @matthewlai906
As we celebrate the acceptance into @nyuproductionlab ‘s Development Studio, we’re not only celebrating this win but 10 YEARS OF MAKING MOVIES TOGETHER. So many short films, festivals, and many cities later, it’s truly a joy, honor, and an excitement to be developing our first feature PENDULUM at our alma mater, at home, at NYU. Thank you to Liz Nord (@lizfilm), John Tintori (@johntintori) Devin Carey (@devawn) and NYU Production Lab (@nyuproductionlab) for supporting us and giving us this platform! @nyutisch by @matthewlai906
Deep in the mangrove forests of Bangpu, Thailand dwells a fish that uses its fins to walk on land. These are Bluespotted Mudskippers. This estuary environment is where the rivers of Thailand meet the sea, creating a unique blend of salt/fresh water called Brackish water. Due to its closeness to the ocean, high tide floods these environments with water while low tide turns it into a dry mudflat. To adapt to the ever changing tides, native animals have evolved to survive on both land and sea. The mudskipper is the first of them! Enjoy their cuteness 🥹 Bangpu, Thailand - - - #mudskipper #thailandnature #mangrove #oceanphotography by @matthewlai906
Every now and then, Khao Yai National Park's traffic gets stopped not by cars, but by wild Asian Elephants that roam the forests of Thailand. This endangered species is the largest living land animal in Asia and the 2nd largest elephant in the world. They are the only non-extinct species of Elephas (genus), making them the closest remaining ancestral link to the Mammoth.
