Illustrator and doodler, trying to use all the colours

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hello world!

I thought it was about time to come out, so to speak, and show myself. So hi, this is me, and here are a few pics from my latest project.

I've just returned from @gabalafest in Azerbaijan where I was asked to design an interactive mural that could be coloured in over the course of the week. The brief was open for me to capture the spirit and culture of Gabala city, so I came up with a variety of ideas inspired by the music and art of the festival, as well as the stunning surroundings.

This was the ultimate art collaboration, inviting anyone and everyone to colour in my artwork, and I love how it turned out. The process mirrored the workshops I was teaching at the festival, of doodling and free-drawing. I encouraged everyone to relax and have fun – don't think just draw – colour inside, outside and over the lines! Take a line for a walk, and as I often say, art starts here!

Thank you to all the wonderful people I met and took part in the festival. Everyone was so kind and I loved every minute of it! Here's hoping I'll be back again next year *fingers crossed*

To finish off the mural artwork I created for @gabalafest I decided to add my own splash of colour. Big thanks to the warm welcome of Qabala, my new friends and all the great times we spent together ♡

Understand That We Are You, 2023

"Understand that sexuality is as wide as the sea. Understand that your morality is not law. Understand that we are you. Understand that if we decide to have sex whether safe, safer, or unsafe, it is our decision and you have no rights in our lovemaking" - Derek Jarman

A quick update on yesterday's design:

In my haste, I didn't double-check that the Arabic lettering was correct. Having not used an Arabic typeface before, it wasn't formatted correctly and displayed cursively from right to left

A quick tip for Illustrator users: choose Preferences > Type and select 'Show Indic Options'. Next, when editing the text, in the Character panel options menu, select 'Middle Eastern & South Asian Single-line Composer'

✩ A big thank you to @nancykouta.me for spotting the mistake and helping me out to get it fixed! ✩

All of Us Strangers | 2024

My favourite film from last year. Haunting, beautiful and devastating, with all the pop and cultural references for a queer teen growing up in the 80s making it feel all the more profound. Time for a rewatch for #PrideMonth by @mattlyonart
