Illustrator and doodler, trying to use all the colours

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We took the towering tranquil “MONASTERY” 460 wooden pieces #jigsawpuzzle by #realhumanartist @mattlyonart (he also designed the whimsical cuts of this spectacular @artifactpuzzles #woodenjigsawpuzzle to @meijergardens to see “CHARTREUSE ICICLE TOWER” by @chihulystudio - there is an extraordinary exhibition of his work currently at #meijergardens - I highly recommend a visit!!

As we were sitting on a bench admiring this #masterpiece I must have been babbling aloud as to the mesmerizing beauty - as a passerby interrupted and asked if we’ve ever been to the “Mothership” in Seattle. I motioned to my wonderful Hubby and said “we don’t fly” - “us either she exclaimed!! We DROVE (from Michigan) and never questioned our decision!!”

The things that make you go hmmmm….with my trusty @zakcopuzzleboards and winning the lottery - maybe we can achieve this!!

“MONASTERY” @mattlyonart 460 #wooden pieces @artifactpuzzles

The #artist #mattlyon also designed the cut of this #woodenjigsawpuzzle - pretty cool!!!

My Hubby was #flabergasted when he saw the finished edges - HOW do you do that??? WHY would THEY do that to you??? He’s a reader not a puzzler. Bless him. ♥️

Ready for adventures thanks to my @zakcopuzzleboards - where do you think we’ll go??? I do hope you’ll join us for my interpretive dance…👵🏻🤭

Puzzles are a GREAT way to connect and play and adventure!!

Thank you, @chaikaevents for inviting me to host workshops as part of the @gabalafest!

It’s been an incredible week. I absolutely loved watching everyone create their scenes with so much energy and joy, and love the idea of all the frames sitting in so many Azerbaijani households. Thanks to my trusty volunteer @ays.eaii and your translation skills! 🌟

Huge thanks to @qafqazriversidehotel and their wonderful staff and hospitality, your hotel is beautiful.

And @mattlyonart @luciesmithart @meanastreetart @savage_gardens and @millington_ruth, thank you for all the camaraderie, friendship and memorable moments! ❤️

L is for Layering

Our A–Z: Artistic Techniques series rolls on — and today we’re stacking things up nicely. 🥁

Whereas using layered files to create illustrations is a really common tool for illustrators, some artists take layering way beyond the practical and turn it into a full‑blown style choice.

That’s where the fun begins: mixed‑media mash‑ups, cut‑paper vibes, textures overlapping textures, colours peeking through shapes… all those delicious little moments where you can see the construction of the image.

Some artists keep their layers tucked away neatly in the background. Others let the scaffolding show — collage edges, transparent washes, digital‑meets‑analogue blends — creating that rich, dimensional, “I want to zoom in forever” feeling.

Layering isn’t just how an illustration is built. It’s how a whole visual world comes alive.

Look out for M - coming soon. Any idea what it might be?

NOT MY WORK! (makers are tagged!)

Here are my inspo photos for the #quiltedcomfortandjoy swap by @goodloveyquiltco !

I love bright colors, things inspired by vintage or mid-century modern motifs, and wonky abstract designs. I'm very interested in a holiday or winter themed quilt, but I'll love whatever you make!

AFTERSUN by @mattlyonart
---------------------------------------

At a fading vacation resort, 11-year-old Sophie treasures rare time together with her loving and idealistic father, Calum (Paul Mescal). As a world of adolescence creeps into view, beyond her eye Calum struggles under the weight of life outside of fatherhood. Twenty years later, Sophie's tender recollections of their last holiday become a powerful and heartrending portrait of their relationship, as she tries to reconcile the father she knew with the man she didn't, in Charlotte Wells' superb and searingly emotional debut film.

Theatrical release in US: October 21.

Theatrical release in United Kingdom and Ireland: November 18.
