Almost exactly a year ago stax had the opportunity to present the fancy future album as an early release concert at the Jazztage @jazzclub_leipzig with live illustrations from @schneebony.

Here’s a snippet from icecream / stupefaction, captured by @rbnlmbrcht and his crew.

We will play again in Leipzig this Wednesday @ino.leipzig 🍂
Sadly we can’t perform with Ebony. But I’ll bring the beautifully designed fancy future comic books, so you can enjoy at least a small impression of her artistry :)

All stax concerts this year:

Oct 02 // Leipzig // Café Ino // 7 pm (!)
Oct 03 // Würzburg // Z87
Nov 27 // Basel // Bird’s Eye
Nov 28 // Friedrichshafen // Jazzport
Nov 29 // München // Jazzstiftung München
Nov 30 // Kalchreuth // Jazz am Bahnhof

HALPIN + DOWNES

matthew halpin - flute, composition
kit downes - piano, improvisation

video - stock footage of 1930s dancers

Since beginning working on layered flute parts I’ve been influenced by Kit’s amazing album Obsidian, go check it out! Very happy to have him playing on this, I had a great time putting it together.
Kit plays Hammond on my new album Agreements, coming on May 14th. Pre-orders are available on bandcamp! (Link in bio)

GLOW

Here's another small snippet of our new ensemble GLOW.

Come hear us live at @reaktor_wien Vienna, Monday, September 14th 2026, 20:00

I tried to book this band for december last year, that didn’t happen, so I'm even more excited, that we'll get to play our first concert today in one month!
The initial idea was, that the music and the ensemble is really ment to play in church-like rooms. Maybe because I spend a lot of my childhood in the church where my parents used to play music and preach..
So this is my attempt to play in churches and big spaces again, but with my own music.

Alois Eberl - trombone @aloiseberl
Beate Wiesinger - double bass @beate_wiesinger
Jakob Helling - composition & valve trombone @jakobhelling
Matthew Halpin - tenor sax @mattsax_halpin
