New from Bass Lion!

Vibraphonist and marimba player Stefan Bauer announces the October 23, 2026 release of Indigo Mood, a new studio album from his international quartet featuring saxophonist Matthew Halpin, drummer Terry Clarke, and bassist John Goldsby. Indigo Mood is built around standard jazz repertoire — the shared language every jazz musician learns and returns to across a lifetime — alongside two new compositions by Halpin and Goldsby that extend the same aesthetic into fresh, original territory. Rounding out the eleven-track program are enduring pieces by Jerome Kern, Oscar Hammerstein, Miles Davis, W.C. Handy, Jimmy van Heusen, Gordon Jenkins and other architects of the American songbook. It is often said that to understand a jazz musician’s true voice, you listen to how they play the standards. The standard canon is the common ground of the entire tradition, and the paths a musician chooses through it reveal their complete artistic palette and improvisational thinking. On Indigo Mood, the quartet’s interpretations cast familiar melodies in a new light, taking the listener straight into the heart of the ensemble — and into the intrinsic musical truths of who these four musicians are, individually and together. @johngoldsby @robinmeloygoldsby @dr_hypno @mattsax_halpin @stefan.o.bauer

Jazzit:Residency 2026 – Lorenz Widauer

How does it feel to run on a sunlighted morning through a 🌳, where the leaves just begin to sprout? I tried to transform this feeling into a piece again featuring @veronikamorscher ‘s beautiful voice and the fantastic musicians of the @ccjo_koeln. Have fun liestenkng to it. Last question to all conductors and Bigband leaders: how would you conduct the 11/8 in the end?

How to…. Vocalise in Bigbandwriting.
This is actually big fun, when you have a talented singer like @veronikamorscher performing it. Listen to the blending of her clear voice with the guitar and a softly played altosax. This song “Out of the woods” is the (almost) final song of my album “Tales from the Wooden Kingdom” with the @ccjo_koeln. Hit me up, if you have questions and comments…

GLOW

Here's another small snippet of our new ensemble GLOW.

Come hear us live at @reaktor_wien Vienna, Monday, September 14th 2026, 20:00

I tried to book this band for december last year, that didn’t happen, so I'm even more excited, that we'll get to play our first concert today in one month!
The initial idea was, that the music and the ensemble is really ment to play in church-like rooms. Maybe because I spend a lot of my childhood in the church where my parents used to play music and preach..
So this is my attempt to play in churches and big spaces again, but with my own music.

Alois Eberl - trombone @aloiseberl
Beate Wiesinger - double bass @beate_wiesinger
Jakob Helling - composition & valve trombone @jakobhelling
Matthew Halpin - tenor sax @mattsax_halpin
