hello! i have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)! (a story)

i was diagnosed in my birth month of April this year. i’ve had debilitating, obvious experiences with both for my whole life, but went under the radar to many people. (you’ve heard of “gifted kid syndrome” right?) it took ~26 years of lived experience, ~8 years of suspicion, ~1 pandemic, ~1 year with a psychiatrist, and ~12 hours of thorough assessment with a neuropsychologist to finally arrive here. and it’s very freeing.

it’s hard to explain to those with an “armchair psychology” understanding of these disorders how all-encompassing they are, and how much harder it gets when multiple of them amplify each other.

this has defined my whole life, in ways that change glacially over time. in recent years, i’ve felt trapped in several feedback loops in my head, particularly in ways that 1. hinder my baseline functioning as an adult (relationships/friendships, physical health, housekeeping, finances, work, etc.) and 2. freeze all my creative impulses in place as soon as they appear.

at the same time, these disorders have enabled some unique abilities. they can be a secret weapon in a field like mine. (the arts as a whole, i’d argue, are primarily driven by neurodivergent people.)

fellow turtle enthusiast John Green said of his own OCD that mental illness, though often stigmatized, is also sometimes romanticized. i aim to do neither here. it’s been exhausting fighting myself for years. not everyone feels comfortable speaking to this, often for fear of social or career repercussions, and i enjoy the privilege to be able to talk about it openly.

i’m sharing to encourage you to take your brain as seriously as any other organ, & seek help if something’s wrong! it took seeing the stories of others to eventually realize i needed to check myself. i hope to be that sign for someone.

i’m very proud to be a neurodivergent artist. knowing the tools i’m working with has been important in learning how to hold them & slowly find my way out of the cycles i’ve been stuck in. i wish the same for you.

outrageous to say that this is the second new John Williams score i’ve worked on. today (June 11 in Pacific time) is also my 5-year anniversary of moving to LA. make of that what you will.

hi friends! this is Matt, i wrote the music for “Sometimes I Imagine Your Funeral.” one year ago, we released the soundtrack on most streaming services. now, in celebration of the anniversary—and honoring what would be Lauren Dixon’s 32nd birthday—Vince and i have two exciting updates to share!

firstly, a new official lyric video for “Chloe”—the song featured in the film’s second half—is now live on YouTube! it features an intimate collection of real home footage from Vince, focused on his sister and family; and handwritten, animated lyrics from myself and the featuring vocalist in the credits version of the song, @laurenmichelleacoba

by the way… in the film, only my lead vocal is heard; Lauren’s voice joins in the credits, which is a shortened version of the song. this “epilogue” is symbolic of Max and Chloe’s voices reuniting after all is said and done. but you’ll notice that the lyric video contains both Lauren’s voice, AND the full duration of the track from the movie!

i usually meme the things i work on but here’s an actual review. this is one of the best Pixar films in recent memory (and my first!). it’s heartwarming and maybe the funniest thing they’ve ever made. highly recommend (and then additionally and furthermore stay for the credits etc. etc.)

July 21—August 9, 2025 • taking this March Fourth to finally dump some old disposables from my 2025 season touring with Carolina Crown 🥳❤️‍🔥🗣️

i frankly stopped caring to see pics of myself performing long ago, but holy moly the PEOPLE. old and new. i can’t fit all my love in my body but i will try my hardest. this is the ENTIRE point.
