It is with a very heavy heart to say this but after many years of courageously fighting for her life against brain tumors that on June 14th Alika became an angel.

She fought bravely and remained fearless throughout, despite spending most of her childhood enduring a never-ending combination of doctor’s appointments, brain surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy. She always stayed positive, and you’d rarely see her without her big bright eyes shining and a smile on her face.

She loved the arts; music, drawing, dancing, acting, and making movies with her family. She had a passion for cooking and aspired to become a master vegan chef. Her light shown so bright even with the darkness that cancer brought her.

Alika’s wonderful siblings, and her amazing parents Leah and Justin are now in mourning and facing the immensely sad next steps of planning her funeral. To have to face this reality is a parent’s worst nightmare and one can only imagine the deep sadness they are feeling.

Through the years the cost for her care has become immense and even in the last year the family was forced to sell their passenger van which was their only means of reliable transportation to get the family around.

So, we are reaching out on behalf of the family to make a push and get them the assistance they need during this difficult time.

Any amount at all would be greatly appreciated.

Even if are not in a position to give which is totally understandable, we only ask 3 things…

To our beautiful, sweet boy Charlie. ( aka Charbs, Charbinius, Charbstar, Charby, Charles )

A pup whose infectious energy and pure hearted happiness opened up our hearts and made them bigger than one could ever imagine.

The embodiment of endless joy. The King of our home and our hearts.

Strolling by throughout the day to give us little kisses on the knee and hand to make sure we were doing alright.

Looking up with your big blue eyes while we worked from the house, hoping it was time for us to go to your favorite park again. A big fluffy alarm clock who would jump onto the bed every morning, flop on top of us with a deep grunt, and promptly position yourself for belly rubs.

Those were best mornings.

A doting and caring big brother, watching over little senior Koa. Always protective of Ziggy especially when her anxiety was high.

She misses you a ton too and has been sitting in the front yard every day this week, in the same spot you use to, looking out.

I still see you in every corner of the yard and house. I keep rubbing my eyes, hoping you’ll appear. I even called out to say “Good morning, Charlie” because I know you still hear us up there.

Saying goodbye to you so suddenly has been difficult to process. There were so many more adventures to have but I know you came and left us, in the window the universe intended for our family. Even in heartbreak, we would choose you and our time together again and again and again.

Please rest easy now my boy. You gave us everything and showed us that by opening our hearts, the capacity to love is infinite.

I am going to take Ziggy to the park now and I know you’ll be there with us.

Our beautiful, beautiful Charlie boy. Our gentle, happy giant floated in to our lives unexpectedly like an Angel, cracking our hearts wide open as big as his own. Big brother to Ziggy and Koa, Mayor of daycare, the absolute King of our hearts, cuddly cornerstone of our home, loved so BIG, so brightly that his star burned out before our love for him ever could. To love you, Charlie, to belong to you, was everything. To lose you so suddenly, so tragically, is unbearable. But no matter the heartbreak, we would choose you again and again, from beginning to end. We’re forever grateful you chose us, too, our sweetest boy. While our time together was too short for our understanding, our love for you never could be. You changed us.
