🖤 INDIE BESTSELLER! 🖤

So happy and proud to share that THE DARK AND OTHER SCARY STORIES is officially an ABA Indie Bestseller, ranking #14 on the Early & Middle Grade list! ⭐️👻🌙

This is a collection I hold very close to my heart. It was a joy to illustrate Max Brallier’s wonderfully creepy, imaginative stories, full of dark twists and deliciously spooky surprises!

I’m incredibly grateful to have been part of this project alongside Max, Katie Carella, Brian LaRossa, Maria Marcado, and the entire Scholastic Acorn team.

A huge thank you to everyone who has read, shared, recommended, and supported this book, and to the independent booksellers who help stories find their readers.

This book will always have a special place in my heart. 🖤🦇

On Mondays leading up to the release of Sherlock Society Art Attack, you get to be the detective and look for clues. Can you solve this week’s mystery, which involves four fantastic middle grade authors?

In the Sherlock Society, Grandpa is a retired reporter. Which one of these authors was once a writer for Teen People?

Visit their feeds, follow them and me, and put your answer in the comments. Right or wrong, you’re automatically entered for a chance to win a signed copy of Sherlock Society Art Attack! I’ll post the answer and the name of the randomly-selected winner on Saturday.

CWMF Book Spotlight 📚

For developing readers, one of the biggest shifts happens when reading stops feeling like something they have to do and starts becoming something they want to do.

That is what makes The Last Kids on Earth by Max Brallier such a strong fit for this week’s spotlight.

Filled with humor, action, monsters, and adventure, the story gives young readers plenty of reasons to keep turning the page. For ages 7 to 9, that kind of momentum matters. A child who wants to know what happens next is practicing comprehension, building stamina, and strengthening independence without thinking of reading as an assignment.

This week, we shared one of our guiding principles:

At CWMF, we believe independent reading doesn’t just begin at a certain reading level. It begins the moment a developing reader chooses what they want to discover.

Books like The Last Kids on Earth help make that choice feel exciting. A funny character, an unexpected challenge, or a world unlike their own can be enough to pull a child into a story and keep them there.

And every time curiosity leads a young reader to the next page, the next chapter, or the next book, reading becomes more personal.

At the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation, we believe those choices matter. They help children discover that books can take them somewhere they want to go.

Thank you, @max_loves_pants , for creating a series that gives young readers so many reasons to stay curious and keep reading.

Seriously. How has no one at @lego given me the job I’ve never actually applied for?

Custom MOC based on @thelastkidsonearth’s Tree House - complete with rocket launchers, birds nest hideout, living space, kitchen, bedroom, catapult, many vines and spikes, and of course, a dangling poo bucket.
