POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The countdown to Halloween is on! I love spooky stories, monster and dark characters!

Here are two fun reads for the season:

“The Scariest House on the Street”, by @joelasutherland & @terry.pearson.art

Spooky-Tacular read aloud. Cleber, funny and engaging.

A group of monster friends get spooked when they find out new neighbours moved into their favourite place to play. The abandoned house now is clean, no spiderwebs or rats.

Things get scarier when the new folks invite them for a Halloween party. As their parents make them attend, they find themselves having fun with all kids of Halloween game. That is until they find out their new community members are… HUMANS!!!!

Great tale about how “different” scares us and friendships being found in unexpected places.

“The Dark and Other Scary Stories” by @max_loves_pants

One of my current favourites to read with my middle grade child. The right amount of weird, creepy and funny.

I want to hang all illustrations on my wall.

This story collection of ten “terrifying” tales are perfect for horror lovers in the making. Reading in the dark, with a flashlight is advised.

Monster reads, no doubt.

Thank you @scholasticcda for the review copies. All opinions are my own and no one scared me to share 👹

Kid won’t touch anything that isn’t a screen? Here are 5 books that play like a video game!

Minecraft → Minecraft: The Island
Fortnite → The Last Kids on Earth
Puzzle games → Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library
Strategy games → Ender’s Game (12+)
RPGs → The Castle of 1,000 Doors (mine, the one with the talking potato)

Save this for the next “I’m bored” afternoon, or send it to the parent whose kid only talks about Fortnite.

What game is your kid obsessed with right now? Tell me below and I’ll match them a book 👇

Spooky Series: ZOMBIES

As an absolutely massive fan of The Walking Dead, and The Last of Us, you know that I love reading about zombies 🧟‍♂️ For a creature that at one point was quite one note, I’ve seen them done in a lot of clever ways!

So happy and proud to share that THE DARK AND OTHER SCARY STORIES is officially an ABA Indie Bestseller, ranking #14 on the Early & Middle Grade list! ⭐️👻🌙

This is a collection I hold very close to my heart. It was a joy to illustrate Max Brallier’s wonderfully creepy, imaginative stories, full of dark twists and deliciously spooky surprises!

I’m incredibly grateful to have been part of this project alongside Max, Katie Carella, Brian LaRossa, Maria Marcado, and the entire Scholastic Acorn team.

A huge thank you to everyone who has read, shared, recommended, and supported this book, and to the independent booksellers who help stories find their readers.

This book will always have a special place in my heart. 🖤🦇

“It’s time to stop being this monster’s punching bag. See, I’ve kind of been the world’s punching bag for a while and y’know—it just ain’t a whole lotta fun. So I’m fighting back.”

'The Last Kids on Earth' by the genius @max_loves_pants is a funny, yet moving, novel that sees a group of kids battle the zombie apocalypse.

The story is accompanied brilliantly with illustrations by @douglasbot that show the many zombies, and zombie hybrids, in all their horrible glory.

I really loved this read and I am delighted it was our first read of the year for our Junior Book Club! It went down an absolute treat!

Who wouldn’t want to draw monsters and survive the apocalypse?! 😂🌎💥

Would YOU survive the monster apocalypse? 👀
