How you start your gymnastics matter!!

If you can start each movement, the same every time it takes away some variables that might be affecting you and allows you more time and effort to focus on what might actually improve you!

There are loads of common links between all gymnastics movements on the rig, but the one I think is most important is how you being your rep.

Jumping up into a hollow will both dictate the rhythm of the movement but will also help with the initial generation of power, which will help you achieve that first rep.

Practising the basics of the hollow but also how you start each movement can be a massive tool in helping you become a better gymnast!!

I hope this helps

Everything is linked!! Here’s why YOU should perfect the basics

Gymnastics doesn’t need to be complicated.

Building foundational gymnastic strength and movement patterns at the base level like a kipping pull-up can be a massive tool down the line

An increase of pull down on the bar will progress to a Chest-to-Bar, maintaining the same movement pattern.

A furter increase of pull down on the bar will help access a high Chest-to-Bar and then a Bar-Muscle-Up. All with the same movement patterns!!

A Bar-Muscle-Up needs a refinement of the basics and a solid base of strength!!

I hope this helps

Do your Toes-to-bar look like this??

First, we need to look at how you start the movement.

Entering in a hollow will help you establish a good rhythm early while also helping you generate enough power for that first rep!!

To make sure your toes actually touch the bar, making sure your toes are pointed. This not only helps you get the rep but less tension through the hamstrings will make linking those reps even easier!!

Making sure that you hold a tight arc will help you both link your reps and make them easier. The more tension your body holds, the more efficient the movement and the better the power of your Beat swings can be utilised!!

I hope this helps 💪🤸‍♂️

Feeling stuck in your training?

If you’ve been putting in the effort but still struggling with the same weights or movements—and progress just isn’t showing up—something’s off.

You’re training hard, but if the structure or strategy isn’t right, your results will always fall short. Here’s what might be missing:

- Clear structure: Your sessions should feel connected, not random. A well-built structure leads to long-term adaptation.

- Targeted intensity: Not every session needs to be max effort. Intensity should align with the specific goals of the training block.

- Skill before fatigue: Technical work needs to be refined before it's tested under pressure. Just doing movements in workouts isn’t enough—skills must be developed intentionally and progressively.

- Flexible recovery: Progress doesn’t just come from pushing hard. It comes from knowing when to pull back. If recovery and volume adjustments aren’t built into your plan, progress will stall.

If this sounds familiar and your hard work isn’t showing in your results, it’s time to rethink your programming.

The importance of analysing and feedback can not be understated!!

What a coach can do for you!!

Analysis of a fault during a lift (or any movement) it is important to identify the route cause.

Applya cue or cues to implement into the movement to see if they have a positive effect on the movement.

Programme segmented drills to reinforce movement specifics.

Finally, applying the skills acquired from the drills to the full movement resulting in a better lift (Movement)

If you're tired of making the same mistakes but don't know what to do, maybe this is your sign to start working with a coach!!

If this is you and you're ready to take your skills to the next level!! Drop me a DM 📲

MAPTT1 - The Deadlift

A movement we do a variation of on a weekly basis. But one we can often be complacent with. A deadlift we can exert maximal force to shift huge weights but can often be performed inefficiently or wrong.

Here are some P.O.P. that will help you step up your deadlift!!

First, with the setup, we want to maximise tension through the body. We can do this by hinging at the hip to load up our posterior chain (with the added benefit of setting your back up with great neural alignment). From here, maintaining that posterior chain tension but bending at the knees to reach the bar.

Tension is key with the deadlift, like all movements to maximise power output and potential. We want to remove any slack from use and the bar in this case before performing the movement.

Finally, we want to drive our hips towards the bar like a hip thrust. Utilizing the loaded-up tension in that posterior chain from our setup. It's a bit like a rubber banded being stretched and released to fling it across a s room.

Just a few technical tweaks to set up to maximise position and tension can help add massive amounts of weight to your deadlift

If this helped you, like, and follow for more. 💪
