a couple mornings ago, I was leaving the house I grew up in to jump into an uber on the way to the airport.

this moment already felt quite zachbraffcore. i had spent the week connecting with people i grew up with and my family for the first time since, well, things that happened. i was reeling from a particularly life-changing and kooky happenstance with my best friend (long story, but we'll be okay) which was really underscoring the "can't hardly wait"-like gravity of the moment.

there's this rad pop band that plays pretty and weird music that i have single-handedly forced into becoming the soundtrack to the friendship i just referenced. i'm obsessed with them and, like any profound friendship, they balance profundity with comfort. they're called @hovvdy (from the pretty/weird capial city of austin). they have two singers, one of whom write/thinks like me and one whose words and soul remind me of my bff. i was having a moment of utter self doubt as to whether i deserved being a best friend at all, and wedging myself into this uber when, at this low-point of "do i suck", one of these two singers happened to send me a kind message on instagram saying that he too loved my music and i tripped the fuck out. it happened to be the singer who i identify with, who sings my favorite song by the band, the one that most pertained to the moment i was literally living. we talked about being girldads and i geeked out profoundly.

given this is one of those "long story with a moral i could have just said" posts, i suppose this taught me that we're all extremely capable of doubting the love others show us. i ask y'all reading this to have faith that you DESERVE one or more "miracles" that prove your homicidal inner critic, not you, is actually totally irrational. whether you call it fate, manifestation, or a deluded moment in a nihilistic void, sometimes life happens to inarguably prove we are valued more than society wants us to think. i'm therefore thankful to anyone who has ever taken the time to give me or my art a chance and especially those who have voiced it, and created those moments for me.

Need to redo this.. for better audio, but same energy. This was from 2011 in Baltimore at Ottobar. I have a question, do people lose this passion they had when they were younger as they get older? Max’s doesn’t…just because you add a 2 or a 3 in front of your age from a 1 or 2, the feels should stay the same…

Some songs need participation… here’s Plea from In Defense of the Genre. This for sure could use you when you come to the upcoming unplugged/storyteller shows. We are hitting next weekend as a trial run to see if you guys come out and if you love it… so all of you in the other zip codes wanting this, if you have people in Atlanta or Nashville… it’s on them! lol… Chattanooga… you already showed the love. More of this please… Walk Through Hell performed back in 2011 at North Star Bar in Philadelphia… this kind of performance and participation is what really makes these acoustic shows special. One week from today, it all kicks off… who knows if these go well, we can add more in your zip code… Philly, this is such a great memory… would you want it to go down again? Would you come out? We know there are so many things to choose from, funds are limited these days and when shows like this come up, we ask for your time and time is special… so we want to make your time special with some songs, stories and memories to be made. 🎥 @connorcatastrophicx

Who knew?

I am playing performing an acoustic show at Revelry Green Bay, Wisconsin on Saturday, September 19, 2026. I have met nice and mean people, sometimes both (like in a good way) from Wisconsin, but since I dont play/go there enough Id like to learn more.

What is the strongest, reekiest cheddar? What is the most foreboding field or creek? Do you guys piss in all those creeks? Why do you still fetch water from them?

Are there any lesser known serial killers or deviants you guys contributed to the evil-people hall of fame I should take an obsessive interest in? Im down to really do the research if theyre twisted enough. Any ACTIVE evil peeps? Do you need me to dom them?

Either way knowing all the cool people in Chicago is so last summer. Come say hi in the comments and dms, Wisconsin.

A pretty great performance from May 2nd 2007 at #electricfactory, now known as @franklinmusichall in Philadelphia while on tour with @savestheday and @thealmostofficial and @therealtdh … love this performance of I Want to Know Your Plans from…is a Real Boy. Another song that could be performed on the upcoming acoustic/storyteller shows starting on August 28th. Come on out. Let’s sing some song and make some memories together

Man… In Defense of the Genre has so many bangers. Baby Girl, I’m a Blur… acoustic and recorded (I think) in 2009. Credit for this one goes to Eric Nowels and Matt Kiser… tickets on sale now for the upcoming acoustic/storyteller shows we have lined up!!!

2 weeks from today at @cherrystreettavern .. Max will be doing the first of his run of acoustic shows that will be performance and storytelling… plenty of stories, laughs, sarcasm and sing a longs to have… here’s a very loud and unplanned performance of I Want to Know Your Plans from …Is A Real Boy, captured by @chrisphelps back in April of 2012 outside of the Sony Store in NYC… we really want to see you there if the shows come to your zip code… we could just add more of people want to come out and sing…
