Over the weekend, Say Anything’s Max Bemis canceled a run of solo concerts after a 17-year-old girl posted allegations of inappropriate messages from him on Reddit. A previously announced album from Wavves and Say Anything has now been thrown into question as well.

The fan shared screenshots of what appear to be months of sexually charged exchanges with Bemis, who is 42, over text and social media. In announcing the cancellation, Say Anything’s social media accounts cited “the need to prioritize his mental health and personal well-being.” The allegations came out just before I Surrender Records’ release of Wavves and Say Anything’s collaborative LP ‘Cherry Soda.’ Today, Wavves frontman Nathan Williams announced that he will rework the LP to remove Bemis’ contributions.

In messages on Wavves’ Patreon the other day, Williams wrote, “I don’t know the guy I’ve hung out with him 3 times when he was on the studio on a professional level he was awful.” He added, “I’m about to lose 200k bc of this gross loser but money can’t save your soul.”

Williams said rerecording the album “wouldn’t be hard” and noted that Bemis’ work on ‘Cherry Soda’ was minimal. “Would delay the release [but] maybe I wouldn’t lose my savings if I can at least figure that out,” he wrote. “Issue here is 10,000 records already pressed.” Williams also shared a photo of an AltPress cover that will not be released.

“fuck max,” he also posted on Instagram. “fuck say anything. I’m sorry yall. I Spent 11 months making this record and max spent 4 days.”

Williams says he’s going back in the studio on Monday to finish ‘Cherry Soda’ as a “proper Wavves album.” The album was announced in July for a Sept. 18 release, and several singles are already out, but pages for vinyl pre-orders have now been removed from various online retailers. Wavves will also headline Penniback Presents: Summer Mass in LA this weekend.

Need to redo this.. for better audio, but same energy. This was from 2011 in Baltimore at Ottobar. I have a question, do people lose this passion they had when they were younger as they get older? Max’s doesn’t…just because you add a 2 or a 3 in front of your age from a 1 or 2, the feels should stay the same…

Some songs need participation… here’s Plea from In Defense of the Genre. This for sure could use you when you come to the upcoming unplugged/storyteller shows. We are hitting next weekend as a trial run to see if you guys come out and if you love it… so all of you in the other zip codes wanting this, if you have people in Atlanta or Nashville… it’s on them! lol… Chattanooga… you already showed the love. More of this please… Walk Through Hell performed back in 2011 at North Star Bar in Philadelphia… this kind of performance and participation is what really makes these acoustic shows special. One week from today, it all kicks off… who knows if these go well, we can add more in your zip code… Philly, this is such a great memory… would you want it to go down again? Would you come out?
