Meet Max Harman @maxharmancreates , one of the artists exhibiting in Unbound 2026.

Max is a multidisciplinary artist working across drawing, painting, digital and collage to explore human connection, fragility and exaltation.

Their practice is drawn to contrasts — fragility and strength, grief and delight, decline and vitality — using colour, material and process to tell stories that often reveal more the longer you spend with them.

Through experimentation, repetition and a whole lot of making, Max creates work that sparks curiosity while opening the door to deeper, and sometimes taboo, conversations.

Come and discover Max’s work as part of Unbound 2026.

Showing until Sunday 11 October
Gallery Unbound, Northcote

In my studio today: engineers drilling to find & fill voids under our bluestone foundations. The aim: stop our lovely old building sinking any further. It’s a bit nerve wracking!!

This poor little puppet has no name. Can you think of a suitable name??
It's no.11 of 12 sock puppets painted as a kind of grief ritual in honour of my mum, & s/he was born in the @retreat_abbotsford Front Bar bringing laughter, song & play.
FYI the other puppets' names are: Peck, Delita, Sparkplug, Banter, Hip Hip, True, Rona & Gert, Mo, Al, Babes & Janski.

This was the very last sock puppet I painted. Finishing was sad cos it was the end of the grief ritual I created for myself after losing my mum.
AND, this was the very first sock puppet to be bought! Named in honour of Mum (Jan) & given the cultural form of affection "-ski" by @taniasimcic it set the precedent for giving names, not just numbers, to the whole sock puppet series. My mum would've loved it. Bloody ridiculous, she would've said!!

Massive thanks to @FireRescueVictoria who stopped the fire 2 doors down from spreading. @martyxennoff & I were ready to evacuate with Lilly, but thankfully were safe & had a good neighbourhood debrief at @panacea_bar once the excitement died down! The poor old theatre is well & truly destroyed. The road is still closed as we wait for the building to be made safe - corrugated iron is flapping around in the breeze after the roof collapsing. We’re heading to the @retreat_abbotsford very soon for Marty’s weekly gig & comfort among friends
