Meet Max Harman @maxharmancreates , one of the artists exhibiting in Unbound 2026.

Max is a multidisciplinary artist working across drawing, painting, digital and collage to explore human connection, fragility and exaltation.

Their practice is drawn to contrasts — fragility and strength, grief and delight, decline and vitality — using colour, material and process to tell stories that often reveal more the longer you spend with them.

Through experimentation, repetition and a whole lot of making, Max creates work that sparks curiosity while opening the door to deeper, and sometimes taboo, conversations.

Come and discover Max’s work as part of Unbound 2026.

Showing until Sunday 11 October
Gallery Unbound, Northcote

Waking up, back in my own bed, feeling so grateful to have spent the past 4 days ‘Beneath The Surface’ with catalytic Steve @leadbeater and this gorgeous, generous crew at 2026 @grampiansbrushes_summerbrushes.

We made so much art, had so many great conversations, danced through our past and future, and experienced connection in a way that only art as catalyst can enable.

I was seeking restorative space but discovered it in the most transformative collective creative energy.

Thank you new friends (human and mountain) miss you already ✨ xx

Life feeling a little heavy lately? Come and put it down for a couple of hours.

Tomorrow night we’re opening Unbound and celebrating Gallery Unbound’s second birthday — two years of art, artists, community, conversations, slightly chaotic opening nights and somehow keeping this whole thing going.

Come have a drink, wander the gallery, discover some new art and celebrate with us.

Friday 18 September, 6–8pm
Gallery Unbound, Northcote

No pressure. No pretension. Just art, people and a bloody good reason to get out of the house.

Come celebrate two years of Gallery Unbound with us.

Reel features work by Imi Oliver @imi_oliver , Logan Moody @loganmoodyart , Pascale Garlinge @pascalegarlingeart , Dave Behrens @davebehrens , Casey Hewitt @caseyhewitt_, Colin Quest @colinquest__ , Jenni Armstrong @jenniarmstrongart , Max Harman @maxharmancreates and Renee Mitchell @reneemitchellart , alongside an incredible mix of artists in Unbound.

It was a big honour to be graphic recorder for @maxharmanartist’s recent session on “Practical Things to Do Before You Die” as part of her “Coping” Exhibition in Collingwood (finished yesterday). Max and death doula @Kiri.Bear led a beautiful conversation about important things to consider around that big transition. [image: a graphic drawing of a human-like creature pulling the door handle surrounded by lots of notes on practical things regarding legal documents, care arrangements, and decisions re remains.]

'After my mum died I didn’t know how I would be creative again. To cope, I focused on delight.

Memories of a raucous afternoon at my local pub, singing ‘Hey Jude’ with sock puppets, distracted me from the spiral of grief and restored my creativity.

Slow paced experimentation developing these works became a kind of ritual, helping me shift from a life of having my mum ... to a future without her. My reliance on rituals and community through grief was significant.

These sock puppets exist because of a pub community and are in honour of the positive way my mum chose interaction, colour and laughter throughout her life.'
