From making Shalini Vatsa wear the same outfit for 30 days to not allowing her to wash her hair for a month, every detail was carefully planned to capture the character's real-life degradation.

Maxima also revealed how the costumes were washed in a village lake with minimal soap to naturally recreate the weathering required for the film.

#SCREENAcademy: At the 4th edition of the SCREEN Masterclass, award-winning costume designer Maxima Basu revealed how she approached the costumes for Laal Singh Chaddha and created a distinct visual identity for Aamir Khan’s character.

Basu carefully crafted the costumes to capture the essence of Forrest Gump while giving the film its own Indian identity, keeping the period, setting and overall mood in mind.

She also spoke about the challenge of designing Kareena Kapoor Khan’s looks through the colourful 1990s while ensuring the costumes remained true to the story’s visual language.

#SCREENAcademy: Award-winning costume designer Maxima Basu takes us behind the making of All We Imagine as Light, explaining how something that looks effortless on screen can involve meticulous work behind the scenes.

Speaking about the nurses’ costumes, Basu reveals how the team worked with cinematographer Riku to arrive at the right shade of blue, dyeing the fabric in 10–15 different blues before finding the one that worked perfectly with the film’s lighting, framing and colour palette.
