I have been putting off this post for a long time because this is a really hard goodbye for me. But with fall camp starting and the season right around the corner, I felt like now was the right time to say it.

I still have a hard time coming to terms with the fact that my time as a football player is over. This sport means everything to me. Since my junior year of high school I truly ate, slept, breathed, and dreamed football every single day. There was nothing I loved more. It was my passion and something I could never get enough of.

It is crazy to think that a guy who was a competitive dancer and didn’t even like sports would go on to become a two-time all-conference player, finish top five in sacks in school history, and lead his conference in sacks. I had to throw that in there.

Nothing in my life has ever come easy, and there has been no challenge I have enjoyed more than becoming a better athlete and football player. Some people only enjoy parts of what it takes to play this game, but I loved all of it.

When I look back on my college career, I think about the memories and the people more than anything. My goal was always to be the best teammate and leader I could be. To me, relationships and leadership matter more than any accolade or stat and I hope I lived up to that.

Northern State, you are my second home. I could not imagine playing anywhere else or wearing another jersey. Thank you for the memories, the friendships, and the opportunities that came with being a student-athlete. I am proud to be an alum.

Thank you to all of my coaches and mentors who poured into me and helped me become the best player I could be. I was lucky to learn from some incredible people.

And finally, thank you to my family and loved ones. Your support over the past eight years has meant everything to me. I would not be where I am without your sacrifices and belief in me.

Although my time as a football player has come to an end, I am just as excited for what is next as I pursue a career in strength and conditioning. I am ready to attack it with the same passion and dedication.

Thank you football, for everything. I will miss you forever. #44 signing off. taken in Northern State University by @maxvandy01

Senior DE Max Van Landingham backed up his 2024 All Conference recognition with a great fall 2025 campaign. MVL finished the season tied for the league high in sacks (7), second in the league in TFL (9.5), and served as the Defensive Captain for the Wolves!
