What a year😲!

Grateful for 2024 🙏. God is so good 🙏. From January to December, let’s go😀.
JANUARY: I bought my first car 🤓. I started the Spring semester with many uncertainties, but God came through.
FEBRUARY: I gave my first seminar presentation, a poster, and an oral presentation on my research at the 2024 Translational Cancer Center Consortium (TRCCC) annual meeting hosted by the University of Pittsburgh.
MARCH: I was selected to attend the 2024 NCI-funded workshop on “Big Data Training for Cancer Research” (BigCARE) at UC Irvine. In addition, I received a travel award to support my attendance at the workshop in July.
- I got some #funds approved by the HSC Office of Research and Graduate Education for my Experiential learning in the Summer at UC Irvine.
-During the heat of the semester, I got diagnosed with a periodontal issue due to a shift with one of my front teeth, and I had to start treatment as soon as I can so I don’t lose my front tooth😂😂. The financial implication stressed me out, but I am grateful for the gift of men. All glory to God🙏.
APRIL: I got some #funds approved by the HSC Office of Research and Graduate Education for my Experiential learning in the Summer at UC Irvine. I got #approved for the Stitzel Emergency Funds by the Office of Graduate Education and Life Page to settle part of my dental bills.
MAY: I completed my #coursework and performed excellently, maintaining a #CGPA of 4.0/4.0. Despite the challenges in the semester, God saw me through.
JUNE: I completed my dental treatment with a positive feedback from my Periodontist. She was impressed at how well I maintained a good oral hygiene. I was also happy with the #result of the treatment.
JULY: I traveled to California for the Big Care workshop. It was also an #opportunity to network with people.
AUGUST: I moved to a new apartment, and my fiance (now my husband) pulled a surprise #proposal party for me on the 31st of August.
SEPTEMBER: A year was added to my years. Got on a collaborative research🤓.
OCTOBER: I passed my #candidacy exam.
NOVEMBER: Safe international travels.
DECEMBER: I got #married to the love of my life. Thanks to my 1k+ #followers🎉.

Bound by Love❤️, Unfazed by Distance, United in Destiny💕💕: Our Journey to Forever🫂

My heart is full of gratitude and love as I begin this chapter of my life - “being married.” I must say that God is good. Our love story started when we, as two passionate, bright minds driven by service, excellence, and ambition, met in Lagos, Nigeria. My husband and I won the prestigious @ischolarinitiative_isi scholarship in year 2020 which paved the way for our graduate studies abroad (UK and United States). We first crossed paths as academic scholars at the iSI hangout, Lagos in March 2021, and it was just beautiful to connect with him alongside other scholars. Our first meet-up was all it took to spark a connection that neither of us could ignore. He and I traveled to the US and UK, respectively, in the Fall of 2021 to begin our master’s programs. Despite the difference in time zone and distance, we were intentional about staying in touch, and what began as a simple friendship quickly blossomed into something deep and meaningful.

Despite the miles that separated us—Mayor in the USA and I in the UK — our bond only grew stronger. We stayed committed to checking in on each other, offering support, and genuinely caring for one another. The Atlantic Ocean between us affected nothing as our friendship flourished across time zones and continents. A year later, God orchestrated a move that brought us closer when I moved to the United States to begin my PhD. Though we found ourselves in different states, a thousand miles apart, the #connection between us remained unshaken. It wasn’t long before my fiancé (at the time) asked me a life-changing question: “Would you be willing to walk the path to forever one with me?”. I replied with a resounding “Yes,” and we embarked on this new chapter, filled with moments of preparation, anticipation, and endless love.

On Saturday, December 14, 2024, we stood before our families, friends, and countless witnesses with joy and ecstasy to begin our forever.

This journey started by association, albeit intentionally.

I just might have never taken the first steps to going to Graduate School without @i_scholarinitiative. I got the right push, joined a community of passionate and committed scholars (friends), supported by an army of partners, governed by an excellent board of trustees.

Thank you for making the dreams of young Nigerians come through.
Thank you for holding our hands through it all.
Thank you for 2020, 2021 and beyond.

In all that we do, for all that we are, all the relationships we get into and the causes we commit to, one fundamental factor resonates for me - God at the center of it all.

Day after day, he's faithful.

He loves us, he fashioned us.

He calls us.

When we respond and accept - He calls us SAVED.
