Thank you for joining the Women’s Caucus last week at the Cal Cities Annual Conference & Expo!

We had a wonderful time connecting with our members, meeting new faces, and coming together to celebrate the work and leadership of our community at the Women's Caucus Business Meeting. We also welcomed our newly-elected board of directors, who were officially sworn in by Riverbank Mayor and 1st Vice President Rachel Hernandez.

Our workshop explored how cities are creating dedicated offices and departments focused on youth development, children, and families. A huge shout-out to our panelists: Courtney Baltiyskyy of the YMCA of San Diego County, Patrick Seals of the City of Richmond, and Carlsbad Mayor Pro Tem and Caucus Director at-Large Priya Bhat-Patel. Thank you also to Lakewood Council Member and Caucus President Cassandra Chase for moderating the conversation.

During our annual Wine and Cheese Reception, we honored Councilmembers Ellen Kamei of Mountain View and Janet Keo of La Palma for their dedicated service and meaningful contributions to our board. With their council terms concluding this year, the reception offered a special opportunity to celebrate their lasting impact during their final conference with us.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our events. We can't wait to see you next year for the 2027 Cal Cities Annual Conference and Expo at the San Jose Convention Center.

Leading with Purpose. A Fireside Tribute to Women Trailblazers was a beautiful evening.

It was a full house and that means everything. Thank you to everyone who took the time to come out and be part of this celebration.

Cal Cities Women's Caucus @loccwomenscaucus honored four women whose leadership, service, and dedication to the people of California are nothing short of extraordinary.

Congratulations to our 2026 Honorees:

Fiona Ma, CPA, California State Treasurer @fionamacpa
Blanca Pacheco, California State Assemblymember, District 64 @asmblancapacheco
Lindsey Horvath, LA County Supervisor, District 3 @lindseyphorvath
Angie Mancillas, Manager of External Affairs, Water Replenishment District @angelina.mancillas
@wrdsocal

These women are trailblazers in every sense of the word and celebrating them was a privilege.

None of this happens without an incredible team. A heartfelt thank you to our Reception Co-Chairs and Caucus boardmembers for their leadership and commitment to making this evening possible:

Janet Keo, Council Member, City of La Palma
Beatriz Dieringer, Mayor, City of Rolling Hills
Lynda Johnson, Mayor, City of Cerritos
Priya Bhat-Patel, Mayor Pro Tem, City of Carlsbad

A warm thank you to our incredible sponsors and to our host city, the City of Cerritos, for welcoming us so graciously.

Serving as President of the Cal Cities Women's Caucus has been one of the great honors of my leadership journey. The Women's Caucus is the largest caucus within the League of California Cities with over 900 members including elected women and allies from across the state, all united in advancing women in leadership and advocating for policies that improve the wellbeing of women and communities throughout California.

And the work continues. Our annual League of California Cities Conference begins today and tomorrow we will host a workshop focused on building family friendly cities, followed by our annual caucus meeting and our wine and cheese mixer.

If you are at the conference, please join us. This caucus exists to connect, elevate, and advance women in public service across California. Pull up a chair and be part of the conversation. by @mayorcassandrachase

This past weekend I traded my matcha for lemonade and Lakewood did not disappoint.

Lakewood Lemonade Day is a program that shows what is possible when a community decides to invest in its young people. These students are learning how to build something, how to serve a customer, how to manage money, and how to give back to the causes they care about. They are expanding what they believe is possible for themselves. And that ripples outward in ways we cannot always measure but absolutely feel.

19 stands across our city this past weekend. Young entrepreneurs showing up with purpose, passion, and a seriousness about their work that stopped me in my tracks.

And seeing a few of them back for their second year? That is everything. It means the program is working. It means these young people are choosing to come back, to grow. That is how we build an ecosystem of leaders right here in Lakewood.

More content is coming and you will hear directly from the entrepreneurs themselves.

A heartfelt thank you to Assemblymember Solache and Joanie from F & M Bank for showing up and investing in our young people. And to every sponsor, customer and volunteer who made this day possible, your support is what turns vision into reality.

To the Lakewood Jaycees, thank you for leading this work year after year with so much care and dedication. Lemonade Day is a movement, a community investment, and a proven model for developing the next generation of leaders. And it exists because of you. by @mayorcassandrachase

Flashback Friday. At Unity Ice Academy, the ice is just the beginning.

During this visit as Mayor, students were working through a project on commitment. What it means. What it looks like. And how it shows up in everything they do, on the ice and off of it.

Unity Ice Academy understands that developing a whole person takes more than skating drills. It takes intentional learning, community, and adults who are invested in who these students are becoming. @ashleightellis and the entire team bring that energy every single day, and it shows in the students they are raising up.

If you are looking for a summer or after school program that pours into young people in a real and meaningful way, this is it.

To the entire @unityiceacademy team, thank you for all that you continue to pour into these students and this community. Lakewood is better because of you. taken in The Rinks - Lakewood ICE by @mayorcassandrachase

Lakewood Lemonade Day is back for its 3rd year and I could not be more proud.

A few years ago we brought an idea to the city. What if we gave our young people a real business experience, right here in Lakewood? The community said yes, the Lakewood Jaycees said yes, and what has been built since then is beyond anything I imagined.

This video is from earlier this month when I served as Mayor, but the love and pride I have for these young entrepreneurs has not changed one bit.

Lemonade Day is about budgeting, branding, customer service, and marketing. And it is about so much more than that. These young entrepreneurs learn the power of community, the fundamentals of running a buisness, and the importance of giving back, contributing a portion of their earnings to causes they care about. Because kindness and care are practices we build into everything we do, including how we teach our young people to run a business.

To the Lakewood Jaycees, the volunteers, sponsors, parents, and City of Lakewood team, thank you for making this possible year after year. This program exists because of all of you.

Come out and support our young entrepreneurs on August 1st. Bring your family and friends. Buy some lemonade. Invest in the next generation of leaders right here in Lakewood.

Follow @lemonadedaylakewood for all the details.

Youth and Community Empowerment has been one of my three core priorities as Mayor, and the last few days reminded me exactly why.

Investing in our young people has always been important to me. Not as a program or a line item, but as a value. Our young people are not just the future of Lakewood. They are the present.

This week I had the privilege of reading aloud at CDF Freedom Schools, where young scholars are spending their summer deepening their love of literacy and learning. The energy in that room is something you carry with you.

I witnessed firsthand the incredible work Unity Ice Academy is doing through their summer programs, building confidence, discipline, and joy on the ice. What they are creating for young people in our community is extraordinary.

And I had the honor of welcoming our young entrepreneurs participating in Lakewood's 3rd Annual Lemonade Day. Watching these young people plan to set up their stands, manage their businesses, and show up with that kind of pride and purpose is one of the great joys of this role.

Shout out to CDF Freedom Schools, Unity Ice Academy, and the Lakewood Jaycees for leading this work with such care and commitment.

I will continue to show up for our young people. Every time.

CDF Freedom Schools has held a special place in my heart. Long before I sat in the Mayor's chair, I was showing up for this work. And returning as a read aloud guest this summer was one of the highlights of my year.

I had the honor of reading Mommy is Mayor, written by my dear friend and former Mayor Dr. Letitia Clark @letitiacclark A beautiful book that introduces young readers to the role of Mayor through a child's eyes, making civic life accessible, relatable, and real for our youngest community members.

Freedom Schools create spaces where young people are celebrated as scholars, where reading is an act of joy, and where community shows up to invest in the next generation. That is Youth and Community Empowerment in its fullest expression.

To every scholar in that room, you are seen, you are celebrated, and your voice matters. 📚💛 by @mayorcassandrachase

Great to join Lakewood residents and local leaders like Mayor Cassandra Chase for lunch at @tacosstr8up.

As I shared my story with Lakewood community leaders, we talked about the need to lower costs for working families. I hear this everywhere I go. When we flip the House this Nov, this has to be top priority. taken in Lakewood, California by @mayorcassandrachase
