The City of Fayetteville Arkansas Government tree giveaway is a beloved tradition!

This morning I shared a story with the crowd about a Fayetteville tree giveaway I attended many years ago, I think it was 2007. My husband and I selected an Autumn Blaze Maple and planted it in the backyard of our house across from Root Elementary. We moved shortly after and when I drive by and see the tree thriving, it puts a smile on my face every time.

Thank you to the volunteers from our Urban Forestry Advisory board, the Parks staff, and everyone who came out before the sun this morning. Thank you for helping expand and preserve our urban tree canopy! by @mayormollyrawn

Thank you to Native American Student Services at the University of Arkansas for inviting me to once again join them on campus as I proclaimed today Indigenous Peoples Day.

This proclamation is an important way to honor the histories, cultures, and lasting contributions of Indigenous people in our community and beyond. by @mayormollyrawn

Got milk?

Last week I got a behind-the-scenes look at something many of us see in our refrigerators every day: Hiland Dairy.

Hiland has been part of Fayetteville’s business community since purchasing College Club Dairy in 1985. Today, its Fayetteville facility employs about 120 people and processes an average of 1.5 million gallons of milk each month, serving Northwest Arkansas as well as markets in Oklahoma.

Hiland Dairy continues to be a great partner for the city of Fayetteville. They work hard to prioritize water conservation, energy efficiency, recycling and local dairy sourcing, all while providing great jobs that add to our economy and improve quality of life for our residents.

Thank you to the Hiland team for opening your doors, showing us around and for the 120 people who go to work right here in Fayetteville every day.

I love getting the chance to see firsthand what our local employers make, who they employ and the role they play in our community. And, it doesn’t hurt when I get to sample limited edition treats like Halloween eggnog and peanut butter chocolate milk. by @mayormollyrawn

What a weekend Fayetteville!

🤠 Thank you saferfayetteville for giving me an excuse to wear cowboy boots while raising money for our students at the Southwest Tailgate Saturday evening.

🏆 Today the Washington County Historical Society hosted its annual meeting and honored two of my former professors Steve and Lindsley Smith, along with Jan Lefler.

🏠 7hills Homeless Center hosted its Chill With the Hills fundraiser where I narrowly avoided bringing home another puppy.

🍺 As one of the founders of the Downtown Fayetteville Coalition I love seeing Falltoberfest continue to grow and be successful. I think this year’s event is our best one yet!

🥧 Next up tonight, I’ll be visiting my friends at saltinefood for an evening of food, music, and creativity.

The Peace at Home Family Shelter hosted its annual Courage Awards luncheon today.

This year’s award went to the shelter’s “Founding Mothers,” the women who began Project for Victims of Family Violence, the organization that would eventually become Peace at Home.

Initially, they relied on volunteers to house women and children fleeing violence, before pooling money to buy property that would serve as the first domestic violence shelter in the state.

Before organizations like this emerged, victims suffered largely in silence.

Dr. Barbara Taylor, Dr. Honore Hughes, and Suzanne Pharr spoke about the early days and their hopes for the future. They were joined by Linda Brown, another early leader, in accepting awards.

These women came together to make change in their community. Make no mistake: it was a radical act.

Thank you to the staff, clients, volunteers, and board members (pictured) continuing that work today. by @mayormollyrawn

A little behind the scenes footage from my conversation with The Startup Junkies podcast!

We also talked about Fayetteville’s entrepreneurs and the work we can do as a city to help people start, grow and expand a business here.

I’m grateful to the Startup Junkie team for the conversation and for the support they give our local community.

I enjoyed reflecting on the path that brought me to the mayor’s office and the lessons I’ve learned about taking risks, building trust, and bringing people together.

I’ll share the episode when it’s available. Until then, a few photos from behind the mic! by @mayormollyrawn

I was back at Fayetteville’s own Packaging Specialties this week to celebrate Economic Development Week. I’ve said it before, and I will say it again: Fayetteville is open for business!

We are excited to connect Fayetteville residents with high paying jobs and opportunities.

Thank you to the companies choosing to locate here, the entrepreneurs choosing to start-up here, and the long-standing businesses choosing to remain here. by @mayormollyrawn

This evening our Fayetteville community is mourning the tragic deaths of two young girls who were students at Woodland Junior High.

To everyone who knew Savannah and Liv, you have my deepest sympathies.

My prayers are with their families during this unimaginable time. by @mayormollyrawn

This morning I got to spend time with Patricia Jackson, a 74 year old woman from South Carolina. After being diagnosed with ALS in April, Tricia was determined to finish a bucket list item: horseback riding in all 50 states. At the time of her diagnosis she had 21 states left to go.

As of today, she has completed her list; Arkansas was her final state.

She chose Fayetteville’s Flying Q farms to lead her trail ride and I was honored to join their team, Tricia, her friend, and her son.

Tricia is an inspiration and riding with her is something I will long remember. At one point during our ride, she stopped to ask us “Do you know how blessed we all are?”

This disease is so cruel. But today was about joy and determination. I’m grateful to have witnessed it. I know Tricia will keep soaking up joy until the very end. taken in Flying Q, Fayetteville, Arkansas by @mayormollyrawn

Specialized healthcare is an important part of a growing economy, and today’s opening of the new UAMS Multiple Sclerosis Clinic is a meaningful investment in Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas.

The clinic will bring expert MS care closer to home, reducing the time and expense patients and families face when traveling for regular appointments and ongoing treatment. It also adds skilled medical expertise to our community and strengthens the quality of life that helps Fayetteville attract people, families and employers.

Thank you to Scott and Jo Rampy and the Rampy MS Research Foundation. Their personal experience became a commitment to research, care and encouragement, and their generous gift helped make this clinic possible.

Thank you to UAMS, Dr. Robert Archer, and everyone who helped bring this specialized care to Fayetteville. I was honored to help celebrate today’s opening and welcome the professionals who will serve patients and families across our region. by @mayormollyrawn

As our nation marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, communities across the country are coming together to honor those we lost.

The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 resulted in the tragic loss of nearly 3,000 lives. Tens of thousands more are still living with injuries and losses suffered that day, including people in our own Fayetteville community. Many more of us still recall that harrowing day and its aftermath.

In the days, weeks, and months following the attacks, millions of Americans, without regard to their perceived differences or disagreements, came together in an extraordinary display of unity, compassion, and service to one another. That is what I choose to remember.

September 11th will always be a day marking profound loss. It can also be a day that reminds us of our profound capacity to unite and care for one another. by @mayormollyrawn
