Today, with mayors and city managers from Cambridge, Chelsea, Lynn, Newton, Medford, Brookline, and Somerville, I signed an “Executive Order To Protect Bostonians From Unconstitutional and Violent Federal Operations.”Together, we will use every tool we have—every right and law and constitutional protection we fought for—to defend our residents from federal overreach. We are Boston. And we will never abandon our values.#Boston #Immigration #PublicSafety by @mayorwu

We cut the ribbon on the final phase of the redevelopment of the Anne M. Lynch Homes at Old Colony in South Boston—the culmination of 15 years of work, powered by 100% union labor. From shipyard workers and World War II veterans to seniors and young families, Old Colony has been home to generations of Boston residents who wanted to build a good life for themselves and their families.Over the years, however, it became clear that Old Colony was far from the standard of safe, affordable, and high-quality housing. In 2009, the City sat down with residents and neighbors to start reimagining what this development could be.The goal set by the Master Plan was to not just create a beautiful physical space, but to reconnect Old Colony and its residents to the entire South Boston community. Together with our partners, that’s what we’ve done with the Anne M. Lynch Homes.Since we first broke ground on this multi-stage redevelopment, we’ve created 887 modern, affordable housing units. Through every phase, our teams have worked to ensure Old Colony fulfills not just today’s needs—but sets our residents and communities up for the future. We’ve created the Joseph M. Tierney Learning Center to ensure families across the community are supported with programs and services across education, wellbeing, and economic opportunity. We also used this redevelopment to launch our Building Pathways program, helping young people get ready for apprenticeships and start their skilled trade careers right here in Boston. We’re excited for them to help us build future-ready housing just like the Anne M. Lynch Homes, which were built with 100% union labor.A huge shout out to all of our labor partners who have been critical in this work: @metrobtc, @nasrcc_ubc, and @massaflcio, who supported this project through their Housing Investment Trust.Thank you to every person who showed up and spoke up over the last 17 years. Together, we’re going to keep working to make Boston a brighter, healthier home for everyone.#Boston #SouthBoston #OldColony by @mayorwu

Boston is the safest major city in the country because generations of public servants have dedicated themselves to protecting and serving our residents. Yesterday morning we honored the @bostonpolice officers that helped build that legacy. They took care of our neighborhoods. They comforted families on the worst days of their lives. They responded in moments of crisis, redefined community policing, and worked every day to build the trust that makes Boston so safe, and so special. It’s been a very emotional couple of weeks for our City—and those services spoke to something deeply powerful about public service: what moves someone to become a firefighter, a police officer, or a guardian of the common good is an extraordinary love for other people. This job requires loving your neighbors enough to put yourself at risk to protect their futures. These officers believed that serving their community was the highest calling, and Boston is safer and stronger because they did.We remember all those who lived their lives in service to Boston, we hold their families close as we move through grief together, and we carry on the legacy our late officers left behind as we work to build a city that is safe, healthy, and joyful for all.#Boston #BPDMemorialDay by @mayorwu

This morning, we gathered in one of the most historic spaces in America to celebrate the life of one of the most consequential figures in American history—Congressman Barney Frank.I like to say that every great leader has some Boston in them, but very few have shaped the City of Boston as much as Congressman Frank. He believed that government, at its best, could solve the problems that mattered, and he trusted the people of Boston—all of Boston—to figure out those solutions. In leading the White administration, Barney Frank was unafraid to hire people who had been historically excluded from government—and who, for that reason, needed to be part of government. He took city government directly into the neighborhoods, establishing Little City Halls throughout the city for residents to raise and solve issues together. When a broad coalition protested the plan to build a massive new highway through the middle of Jamaica Plain, Roxbury, and the South End, he brought them into City Hall, organizing a meeting between the Mayor and a slate of Democratic Ward Committee reformers. Five days later, Mayor White announced that he was joining the community-led opposition—which would save Amtrak service, the commuter rail, and the Orange Line. And he didn’t stop there. He championed community schools so that adults could take evening classes and build community just like their kids. He grew Summerthing so that all our neighborhoods could enjoy the gift of music. And as a state representative, knowing that children of Back Bay had nowhere to play, he fought for the Clarendon Street Playground. He didn’t know it at the time, but his fierce dedication to serving the whole city with his full self made it possible for generations of public servants to imagine themselves in government too—including an Asian American BPS mom and former math and Latin nerd, who grew to learn and love Boston just as the Congressman did…so much so that she even ran for mayor.Barney Frank’s legacy of service, curiosity, and coalition-building with a little fight, is one of the most precious gifts our city has received. May his memory be a blessing, and may he rest in peace. by @mayorwu

Today, community members from across the region gathered to ring in the 20th anniversary of National Caribbean American Heritage Month. Boston is home to more than 127,000 residents of Caribbean heritage who make our city brighter, more vibrant, and more connected. From Dorchester and Hyde Park to Mattapan and Roxbury, our Caribbean neighbors are our doctors and nurses, chefs and security officers, faith leaders and entrepreneurs. They infuse our city with music, art, dance, poetry, and of course, good food.Boston is the city we are today because of our Caribbean communities—and especially our Caribbean immigrants. Know that Boston will always have your back and celebrate you with love and pride. We are so grateful for all you do to help make Boston a better home for everyone.#Boston #CaribbeanNationalHeritageMonth by @mayorwu
