#TuesdayTip: Local Law 55 requires landlords to keep all apartments free of indoor allergen hazards, and inspect residential units annually. To avoid more frequent inspections, landlords should educate tenants on how to keep their apartments mold and pest free.

Mold growth prevention:
-Use exhaust fans and ventilate the bathroom when showering
-Run the AC and keep relative humidity below 60%
-Report any leaks immediately

Pest infestation prevention:
-Place food in sealed containers
-Use garbage cans with lids
-Keep the counters and sinks clean
-Throw garbage out regularly
-Seal any cracks, holes, or gaps in building materials

Our inspector, Ty, after completing a rooftop water tank inspection for a residential building in Manhattan.🚰

As mandated by the DOH, all buildings in NYC must have their drinking water tanks inspected at least once per year by a qualified inspector. by @maypoleinspections

While NYC is known for its excellent tap water - the foundation for our city's renowned bagels and pizza - the same can't be said for the piping in every apartment building.

If you suspect your drinking water is compromised because you've experienced uncomfortable symptoms or noticed a strange color or odor, it may be time to bring in the experts for a water inspection.

Our EPA-certified lead inspectors and risk assessors can perform an analysis for metals, bacteria and other drinking water-related concerns.🚰

Empire State Building in the back, ACM tar in the front. 🏙️

Today’s #TuesdayTip: ACM, or asbestos-containing material, is best left to professionals to deal with. A qualified inspector can determine whether roofing tar, a Category I ACM, can be left alone during demolition or renovation, or if the material must be removed and properly disposed.

At Maypole, asbestos inspections are our specialty. We guarantee 48-hour turnarounds for all ACP-5s, so you can proceed smoothly with construction plans.

It's been 6 years since NYC introduced Local Law 55, but annual inspections are still as important as ever.

Landlords: an excellent inspector will go beyond screening for existing indoor allergen hazards. With tools such as thermal imaging and moisture meters, we can identify water leaks and old issues before they become hazardous.

Prevention is key to keeping your building free of pests and mold - and compliant with the law!
