It’s a hot and humid summer in NYC but, for the sake of your energy bill, it’s important not to overwork your AC during the warmest months of the year.

Today’s #TuesdayTip: how to keep your home cool without overworking your AC - and your wallet - during a heatwave.

1. Filter sunlight: direct sunlight can quickly heat up your home. Make strategic use of blinds/curtains to block out direct sunlight during the day.

2. Change air filters: a dirty air filter prevents your AC unit from cooling effectively. Be sure to clean your filters regularly and schedule annual inspections.

3. Open windows at night: if the night air is cool enough, consider turning giving your AC a break and cracking your windows instead. Just be sure to close them before it gets too hot in the morning.

Indoor air quality can be affected by many things - from the chemicals in your everyday cleaning products to nearby construction.

We’ve put together a comprehensive guide to understanding IAQ and why it matters for your health.

While some pollutants (like tobacco smoke) are easy to detect, others remain “silent.”

Our IAQ testing experts are here to help determine the potential pollutants in your home and corresponding solutions.

After last week's intense heat wave in NYC, chances are you've been blasting the AC more often than usual. Today's #TuesdayTip: to keep your HVAC unit in peak condition, schedule twice yearly HVAC inspections and servicing and change the filter every 1-3 months.

Without proper maintenance, HVAC systems can become a breeding ground for mold spores. Condensation, poor ventilation and dirty air filters and coils are all factors that exacerbate this issue.

As temperatures increase in NYC, so does the chance you'll experience mold growth in your home. Today's #TuesdayTip: preventing mold growth starts with moisture control.

1. Maintain low indoor humidity levels, ideally between 30 to 50 percent.
2. Vent moisture-generating appliances such as clothing dryers outside when possible.
3. Watch for condensation and wet spots; clean and dry any damp spots within 24-48 hours.
