Maytree is once again able to receive donations via our page on the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) website. If you are interested in financially supporting Maytree as we rebuild, a donation via our CAF Page - link below - would be hugely appreciated and will be critical as we work towards reopening our doors again. #mentalhealth #suicideprevention #volunteering #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #suicide #suicidesupport

The majority of people who die by suicide are unknown to mental health services in the year before their death.

Conversations about suicidal feelings matter.

Let’s keep talking to each other.

It was a joy to listen to one of our patrons Professor Dame Parveen Kumar on @bbc Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs this week. She has led and continues to lead a remarkable life, and is a pioneer in so many fields of medicine. She is an inspiration to all of us at Maytree. We are proud to have her support our #lifesaving work with people in #suicidal crisis.

Be inspired! Take a moment to listen to her story and what she'd get up to on a desert island.

The approach at Maytree is partly to provide a ‘container’. Through the site of the ordinary house, through the attention of volunteers and staff, we provide a safe space that can hold the difficulties a suicidal guest is experiencing. The container also holds the fullness of each guest, which includes the lighter parts of themselves. We don’t treat people as patients, but as expansive human beings who, though suicidal, have capacity for many different expressions of feeling. by @maytreerespite

Introducing Gus Pickett of the Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team!

Gus spoke to us on the day of the Seven Sisters Cliff Hike Challenge, when we shared a leg of the walk with the chaplains from Birling Gap to their HQ at Beachy Head. Do find out more about their compassionate, life-saving work out on the Sussex cliffs here: www.bhct.org.uk. by @maytreerespite

We did it! Thirteen miles, eighteen teammates, many a blustery hilltop, and one delightful doggie. You may consider the Seven Sisters Cliff Hike challenge COMPLETE, and £11.5 k including Gift Aid donated so far!

Well done to all who joined on the day, including our patron David Mosse, our trustee Darren Bull, and several of our dedicated volunteers: Alex, Henry, Laura, Maryam, and Will. It was so heartening to connect with each other over suicide prevention efforts, stretch our legs, and add to the coffers for an invaluable cause.

We were also joined by the Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team from Birling Gap to their headquarters, where they shared a bit about their own service, out on the cliffs doing frontline suicide prevention work. Spy a few of their staff in red on the last photograph. We also have a little piece to camera from Gus of the Chaplaincy to show you tomorrow...

Don’t forget, you can still donate! The link to the Seven Sisters Cliff Hike Challenge JustGiving page is in our bio. by @maytreerespite

TODAY WE GO! £10,620 raised so far!

Suicide prevention work takes different forms, and at Maytree we are doing something specific and special. An offer of five days and four nights only, in an ordinary terrace house with trained volunteers and staff for company. A place to have a breather from ‘normal’ life, to explore suicidal feelings and thoughts that may not get easy expression elsewhere, and an opportunity to explore other sides of the self too.

Last Wednesday was World Suicide Prevention Day. Today Maytree staff and volunteers will hike the Seven Sisters ocean-side trail from Seaford to Eastbourne, passing Beachy Head. We walk with hope for anyone feeling the weight of wanting to end their life, and to continue our service for those vulnerable to suicide.

Thank you to KWC Global for a moving and inspiring conversation about #suicide and #suicideprevention. It was an honour to contribute to the session and share about the work and impact of Maytree. For every one person who dies by suicide, 135 family members, friends and colleagues are deeply affected. Talking about suicide without shame, stigma or judgement is vital. Keep talking, check in with each other.

Support our work, #donate today, link in the comments.

A huge thank you to @george_selley for his wonderful work on the films. Thank you for supporting our mission ❤️ by @maytreerespite
