Not every shoot is about making my favorite kind of image.

Thalía knows exactly what she likes, and we lit her the way she envisioned it—bright, direct, and full of light. It’s not the dimensional style I usually gravitate toward, but that’s part of the job: helping someone become the version of themselves they want the world to see.

She was as kind as she is stunning, her entire team was a joy, and as always, my digi Javi made the day seamless.

Grateful for good people, good collaboration, and another day doing what I love.

My favorite landlord—although he was far too humble to ever let me call him that—Chris Heins passed away on August 21.

His sweet partner, Henry, didn’t contact me because I was away on a cruise. I hate that Chris is gone, but I am profoundly grateful that before I left Miami, I made this portrait of him. I’m grateful I paid attention. I’m grateful I kept a running list called “The Ways You Love Me, Chris,” which included taking in my mail when it rained and turning two borrowed dishwasher tablets into an entire new package.

Chris was one of the very few men I put on a pedestal. Since he always corrected me when I called him my landlord, I started calling him “my lord.” It felt more appropriate.

He followed the rules people learn in cotillion. He wore tailored shirts, pleated trousers and custom shoes. He collected art like a fancy Art Basel person and then asked me to help him hang it—which made me feel fancy, too.

I also had the great privilege of documenting his first trip to Trader Joe’s—or Trader Hoes, as I prefer to call it. Chris was decidedly more of a Whole Foods gentleman. My dear friend @daniwex edited the footage of him perusing the aisles and quietly judging my favorite things. At the time, I didn’t post it because I knew it would embarrass him. Now I’m simply so glad I have it.

He didn’t love this portrait because he was wearing house socks and shoes with khaki shorts. But I love it because it is him at home, surrounded by those adorable garden gnomes, being the cutest man alive.

I adored you, Christopher. Thank you for every tiny, thoughtful way you loved me. Thank you for letting me photograph you and for giving me something precious to hold now that you are gone.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet my lord, Christ.

I mean…Chris. 🤍

Eight years ago, one month before my wedding, I called it off.

I had this overwhelming feeling that my fiancé and his family knew something I didn’t: this man did not want to marry me. He just couldn’t say it.

So I called him and said, “I’m going to make this easy for you. Don’t worry about the wedding. Focus on your business, and I’ll start making phone calls.”

He immediately said, “I might lose the business I’ve spent seven years building.”

He never mentioned losing me.

That told me everything.

Before the wedding, he made me sign a prenup. I was barely making money, but I still spent $3,000 on a lawyer. I told him, “Treat me like I’m your daughter and be honest.”

He said, “If you were my daughter, I would strongly advise you not to sign this. It leaves you with nothing—and the woman sitting here today won’t be the same woman sitting here ten years from now.”

OH.

I said, “I don’t want his money. Just make sure he can’t come after MY money someday.”

That lawyer saw me more clearly than I saw myself.

After I called off the wedding, I spent four months in NYC, dated some wonderful men and kept looking at the sky saying, “THANK YOU for getting me out of that.”

When we were together, I once bought myself a $350 pair of Tory Burch snow boots for my future life in Toronto. The next winter, they mysteriously disappeared from his closet. I believed one of the women he was sleeping with walked out wearing them.

Well, his precious business no longer exists.

And me?

I just bought my first home in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin—and today I bought myself another pair of @toryburch snow boots on @poshmark

These boots are going into MY closet, in MY home, purchased with MY money, for the beautiful life I chose for MYSELF. 🤌🏼

I don’t want to get married. I never wanted to birth children out of my vagina. I love children, but I also love freedom, silence, sleeping in and doing whatever the hell I want.

Some women dream about finding the right man.

I thank the sky that I had the courage to leave the wrong one.

No partner required. Just a home of my own—and one fabulous pair of snow boots. ❄️🥾🌈 taken in The North Pole by @mbkoeth

Well, this was a ridiculously fun assignment. 💃🍸🌴

I spent one unforgettable day in Miami with brilliant New York Times writer Mya Guarnieri—salsa dancing, sipping cocktails at the Faena and 1 Hotel, wandering South Beach and meeting the loveliest people along the way.

The story—and my photos—are finally here:
https://www.nytimes.com/2026/08/26/travel/hot-divorcee-weekend-miami-florida.html

Turns out “Hot Divorcée Summer” is less about divorce and more about women having a damn good time on their own terms. ❤️‍🔥

Photographers, Mr. Joe Jordan is officially available for hire as a senior male model for commercial campaigns. The man doesn’t even need a stylist—he showed up pre-styled, fully accessorized, and ready to sell you a luxury watch, a reverse mortgage, or the world’s finest bourbon. Somebody get this man an agent. 😂🔥

Doug and I stopped for lunch at Not Just a Diner @notjustadiner in Saint Croix Falls, Wisconsin, expecting a good meal.

Instead, we met Bob and Jean.

That’s one of my favorite things about saying yes to the long way around. You never know who’s sitting at the next table.

Bob Hasewinkle is almost 101 years old. He served in the infantry during World War II. When I asked Jean how Bob proposed, she smiled and said:

“When he asked me to marry him, he said, ‘Will you marry me? You can keep your name.’”

He knew how much her Irish heritage meant to her.

They’ve been married for nearly 46 years, have three daughters, six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

When I asked what the secret to a long marriage was, they didn’t talk about grand gestures.

They talked about sailing.

Bob came home from Germany, they went sailing together, and they’ve been sailing through life ever since.

As photographers, we often chase the big stories. But I’ve found they’re usually sitting quietly in a corner booth over lunch, waiting for someone to ask a simple question.

Thank you, Bob and Jean, for sharing a little piece of your remarkable life with two strangers.

A few weeks ago, Grace Porter Borowick turned 8, and by one of those wonderful twists of fate, I happened to be in Washington, D.C. on her birthday.

I got to celebrate with my chosen family—my two best friends, Anne and David, and their incredible girls, Grace and Maisey. Some people become family simply because life keeps proving they’re meant to be.

My gift to Grace was photographing her pool party. Watching eight-year-olds completely lost in laughter, sunshine, cannonballs, and cake is a pretty great reminder of what joy looks like.

As soon as the party wrapped up, Eric Dominijanni @ericdominijanni swooped in to pick me up, and we hit the road for Maine to continue our adventure. One unforgettable day, two completely different stories.

Happy 8th birthday, Grace. You are so deeply loved. 💙

Apparently Google remembers parts of my life I forgot. 😂

When I worked for Hallmark in England, I somehow built a little following with my blog, American Crumpet. I lived in an old mill near the storybook village of Saltaire, walked to work to save money on cabs, watched a baby lamb take its first steps, went speed dating because I couldn’t figure out British men (who only seemed interested when they were properly pissed), and somehow ended up dating a cute doctor.

Shout-out to Angie Williamson, sweet Estella, Johnny Big Guns, Hottie Rob, and of course… Hallmark’s greatest boy band, CMYK.

What a ridiculously wonderful chapter of life. Now… I can die happy. ❤️ taken in Bradford, United Kingdom by @mbkoeth

I’ve had the privilege of photographing Coco for many years now.

I photographed her first @espn cover when she was still under 18. She was already a star then—not because of the rankings or the trophies, but because of the way she carried herself. Humble. Focused. Kind.

Over the years we’ve worked together for ESPN, @newbalancetennis @ups @carolsdaughter and @barilla and one thing has never changed: she’s exactly the same person.

People see the champion. I’ve been lucky enough to see the human behind it.

She’s surrounded by an incredible family—her mom, dad, and siblings—who have clearly helped shape the person she’s become. And every shoot has felt like working with friends, especially alongside the endlessly talented (and endlessly kind) Nordia @nordia_ffaceit who somehow always makes everyone look and feel their best.

Talent can take you to the top. Character is what keeps you there.

Watching Coco continue to grow into one of the greatest athletes in the world has been a joy. Watching her remain genuine through it all has been even more impressive.

Congratulations, @cocogauff The world gets to celebrate the champion. Those of us who’ve worked with you get to celebrate the person.

One of the greatest gifts of my work is getting to meet extraordinary people.

Photographing 10-year-old Elle Milota for Boston Children’s Hospital was one of those assignments I’ll never forget. Elle is a dancer with an incredible spirit, and spending the day with her and her mom, Danielle @dmilota was such a joy. Their love for one another was evident in every moment we shared.

The goal was to create portraits that celebrated Elle as she is—happy, healthy, and full of life. It’s always an honor to tell stories that reflect resilience, hope, and the people behind them.

Thank you to Erin Mason for her thoughtful collaboration and to everyone at @bostonchildrens Hospital who made this story possible. I’m grateful I had the opportunity to help tell a small part of Elle’s journey. taken in Matheson Hammock Park Beach by @mbkoeth
