The real reason the U.S. invaded Haiti in 1915 wasn’t the gold. They had already taken it.

What followed was nineteen years of occupation; control of our finances and ports, forced labor, and foreign control expanding over Haitian land.

The Cacos were rural fighters who rose from the mountains of northern Haiti in the 19th century.
What began as local self-defense groups soon became a powerful political and military force that shaped Haitian history.

We partnered with @sir_garvenchy @vinshek_ to curate the runway for Garvenchy’s Fall 2026 collection, inspired by the Cacos and Haiti’s history of resistance.

I wanted to shoot this somewhere green and wild, not in a studio. The Cacos came largely from Haiti’s northern side. Their name came from the red Caco bird, a symbol of courage and resistance. So placing the collection in that wooded landscape connected it back to the place and history that inspired it. taken in Brooklyn, New York by @mcalexanderciceron

A little behind the scenes from building the runway for @vinshek_ The Cacos Collection.

Thank you @sir_garvenchy for trusting us with the creative direction and allowing us to build an experience around the collection.

The set was inspired by the Cacos, the land they fought through, and the history surrounding the U.S. occupation. We wanted the runway to feel connected to the land itself, while referencing the forced labor, displacement, and resistance of that period.
We used sugarcane, rail references, dense vegetation, and raw materials to speak to a time when foreign control over land expanded and many Haitian farmers were pushed off the land they depended on. taken in Brooklyn, New York by @mcalexanderciceron

For this show, the environment is just as important as the garments. Together, we’re transforming the space into an extension of the story, bringing history, and the world of CACOS to life beyond the runway.
