HCX has been so fortunate to have photographers like Claire Saintil, Keylah Mellon, Liz Gauthier, MC Alexander, Paul Corbanese, Richard Louissaint, and Tequila Minsky documenting our work over 15 years. Let’s show them some love! Follow, like, and stay tuned for an upcoming exhibition in the HCX Gallery as part of our Fall Vizyon Atistik exhibition calendar.

“𝗜 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲.” @mcalexanderciceron and I talked a lot about it after shooting our shoot. Even though I was born in America, my parents raised me to understand that Haiti is my home. ⁣

@theresaalphonsemph written words and acts of protest have resonated so deeply with me lately. I’m reminded of me from my @tribesofjoseph days and @chessinc. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝗽 about social justice and used everything within her to advocate for change? ⁣

She got muffled by feeling powerless, and baby, the 𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀. Even though 𝗜 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳, my feelings of upset and hurt about the construct of disparity and injustice - 𝗜 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗜 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀. I feel it in my rebellion to make “fun and trending content.” In my questioning of what truly is success?⁣

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲, 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗲. The humans in power choose to allow profit and pleasure by injustice to be the law of our lands. And the truth is, 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆, 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿; they know this, and that’s why we’re constantly being distracted by the struggles of ‘surviving’ their projections of happiness in whatever version of fame and success look like. If it were up to me, we would live in a world that values humans and the earth - we wouldn’t have to hustle to have a decent quality of life. ⁣

Yeah, 𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝘂𝗽𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱, 𝘆𝗲𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗻, 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁? What I want to know is, 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗰𝗸 “𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆,” 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗲? What would it look like to live in a better world? How does that happen? Where do I play a role i? How do I balance pursuing a better world while still living in this one and enjoying what exists in my world?⁣

𝗜𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴?
