🍕🗑️ It’s official: McGolrick Park now has THREE dedicated pizza box trash bins! 🎉🎉🎉
Pizza is a park picnic staple, but the boxes don’t fit in our bins and caused an overflow when they were left behind. That meant extra work for Parks staff and more sanitation issues. These bins are built for the job, so cleaning up after your pizza party just got a lot easier.
Thank you to @chrissys.pizza , @diamondslice and @rometobrooklynpizza for stepping up to help fund this project, the Parks Department for their installation and to everyone in the McGolrick community who chipped in:

On Sunday, volunteers gathered to place 507 native plants into the ground and establish the McGolrick Rain Garden on the Russell Street side of the park.

This project was made possible by the City Gardens Club of New York, who awarded us a second grant after seeing our successful stewardship of the McGolrick Bird Garden on Monitor Street.

Part of what makes these projects so special is the satisfaction of turning over an underutilized space into something more helpful for the park’s species and climate needs. As our area continues to experience heavy flooding, we are constantly thinking of what our park can do to help mitigate that. Take a look next time you’re in the park, and watch as these plants grow and create habitat for migratory birds and other wildlife.

Thank you to all our volunteers and to @citygardensclubnyc & @partnershipsforparks for your support! taken in McGolrick Park by @mcgolrickpark

Spent a lovely Sunday morning and City of Forest day @forestforallnyc planting a native rain garden on the Russell Street side of the park.
Our engaged group of volunteers have transformed an underutilized area of the park into a native rain garden that captures stormwater runoff while further expanding habitat for pollinators and migratory birds.
Thank you to @citygardensclubnyc for awarding us this grant and to our amazing fiscal sponsor, @partnershipsforparks for helping facilitate.

Stop by and check it out!💚 taken in McGolrick Park by @mcgolrickpark

We’re excited to team up with our fellow park groups at McGolrick Park, Tompkins Square Park and WNYC Transmitter Park to introduce Park to Park — a new way to bring park communities together for some fresh air, connection, fun and well-being.

The free Park to Park experiences — just a ferry ride away — begin Saturday, September 26. The day features a Harvest Moon gathering hosted by @mcgolrickpark at the Greenpoint green space, with music, learning, park beautification and more as we celebrate the start of fall.

Jump over to @mcgolrickpark for more on the September 26 festivities.

Stay tuned for more from Park to Park, including what’s coming to East Midtown. taken in New York City by @mcgolrickpark
