Today I said goodbye to my special girl Bitsy. She was sweet, and hilarious and sometimes a chaos monster. She changed my life.

I have had to learn so much about life by being her special person. As many know she didn’t like people very much so to be her person meant I was part of an exclusive club. And though that was hard sometimes it also made the wins even better.
Bitsy loved puzzles, knuckle bones, freeze dried green juju and anything I was eating until she tried it and spit it out if it wasn’t exactly to her liking. She was the pickiest eater you will ever meet in a dog. If there is a food you can use to get a dog to take a pill I have tried it. Bitsy didn’t like non edible toys unless it was cardboard, the rubber rug mats or my hamper. She was independent, defiant and protective. She gave love in her own ways. She refused to go in the backyard for an inexplicable reason and early on decided reflections were the enemy. She would start her night on the floor of my room when she didn’t have the strength to take the ramp onto the bed. She always slept at my feet facing the door to protect me. She was suspicious and curious and often skeptical. When the vet tech would bring her back to me after an appointment she would say “Bitsy let us know how she felt about us” (that means she was mean). Sometimes her aversions were confusing but she was a girl who needed time to herself and would come back when she was ready.
I learned patience and sympathy, joy and excitement from having Bitsy in my life for the past two years. I loved her deeply and told her often.
