We need seaweed detectives! 🔎Become a citizen scientist and help us track ocean conditions by recording the seaweeds you find between 25 July – 2 August. Meet the Portuguese man o' war.Filled with gases, it sits above the water like a sail. Its long, venomous tentacles trail for over 30 metres and are used to snare prey.Interestingly, marine creatures like the blanket octopus have learned to turn the Portuguese man o’ war’s sting into a defence of their own. The octopus will tear off the tentacles and wield them like a whip, using the stolen stingers as weapons. They may look pretty but have a painful sting, so if you see one, stay clear! by @mcs_uk
