Ashna Konjeti picked up a mic and asked fellow student ambassador Kelviyana Walker-Valentin what sheโ€™s enjoyed most at #WIMSummit.

Kelviyanaโ€™s answer: meeting physicians she might never have crossed paths with otherwise.

Theyโ€™re getting to know people, asking good questions and sending us clips along the way. Student ambassadors, we see you working. ๐ŸŽค๐Ÿ’› #wimstrongertogether #wimsummit #medstudent taken in The Drake Hotel by @medically.kelly

Better than late than never bringing yโ€™all along with me on an off-block maintenance day! Iโ€™m at the point in MS3 where Iโ€™m like โ€œtake me back to my off- block, PUHLEASE!โ€ I canโ€™t wait for another one of these days. ๐Ÿฅน

Have you ever had to squeeze your maintenance into a couple hours?

Come on the wards with me! As a Med Student, the hospital wards can be an intimidating yet very exciting place. I personally tried to learn from my experience the best I could: connecting with my patients while connecting their stories to my studies.

Now I see why they say the material really starts to click in 3rd year. As you see the humanism in medicine, youโ€™re able to commit info to memory way better than in preclinical years.

Here are some tips for those taking the IM shelf soon:

โ€ข Always think โ€œmost common firstโ€ for presentationsโ€”start broad before narrowing to rare zebras.
โ€ข Heart failure Workup: Check BNP, EKG, CXR, and echo
โ€ข Chest pain algorithm: rule out ACS โ†’ EKG + troponins FIRST
โ€ข Know your electrolyte emergency management : hypokalemia, hyperkalemia, and hyponatremia
โ€ข Know the different type of biases seen in clinical trials! This threw me for a loop a couple times so definitely review those Biostat notes!
โ€ข Use your time on wards to connect symptoms with pathophysโ€”cases stick better than flashcards!

Yโ€™all, why did I enjoy my OBGYN rotation more than I thought I would? I didnโ€™t expect to have this much fun! Now I see why my OBGYN girlies love it here!

Hereโ€™s some tips for those taking the shelf soon:

Know the most common obstetric emergencies like the back of your hand! Placental abruption and Uterine Rupture are really high yield ones. Know how to identify them and what to do FIRST. Another high yield thing are the HTNโ€™s of pregnancy (the difference between preeclampsia and eclampsia). Honestly, Iโ€™ll say the best thing for me in the last couple days before the exam was to watch review videos. Best ones for me were Episode 22 of Divine Intervention and Doctor High Yield, MD on YouTube.

โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”-

My 3rd year of Med School has been off to a pretty good start! With 2 rotations in the books, Iโ€™m feeling super motivated to keep pushing through this second half of the year.

Oh! And the evals been even better than the exam scores ๐Ÿ˜‰

I thank God for reaffirming me in my journey to becoming a physician.

3rd year letโ€™s get it!!!!

1st DITL of 3rd year and itโ€™s not even on or about a rotationโ€ฆ I figured weโ€™d take it back to the beginning of it all โ€” to show how my school actually prepares us for a year in the field. ๐Ÿ’œ

This was our Transition to Core Clerkships course โ€” a whole experience designed to get us ready for the clinical environment before we ever set foot on a rotation. CPR. Running a code. Placing IVs. Laughing with classmates who you wonโ€™t see nearly enough once the real thing starts.

It was the last time we were all together before the business of 3rd year pulled us in different directions. And I didnโ€™t realize how much Iโ€™d miss it until I was already gone. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿพ

Use this as motivation if youโ€™re about to start rotations โ€” soak up every moment before this new chapter!

Which part of the med journey are you in? by @medically.kelly

Choosing a med school is giving the school permission to be part of your story โ€” the messy parts too.

I lost my dad during medical school. And the thing that kept me from falling completely apart wasnโ€™t just my faith (though that carried me more than I can say) โ€” it was the fact that my school showed up for me in a real way. They helped me figure out a path forward that honored both my grief and my goals.

So premeds โ€” when youโ€™re interviewing, doing your research, comparing programs, MCAT averages and match lists and prestige? Please also ask:
โ€œwhat does this school do when their students are hurting?โ€

Because grief doesnโ€™t take a leave of absence. And you deserve a school that knows that. ๐Ÿ’œ

OK, so as most of us now knowโ€ฆ I failed step 1. Yet somehowโ€ฆ Iโ€™m still here. still in this coat. still in the field.

But now that Iโ€™ve started rotations Iโ€™m sure youโ€™re probably a little confused about my timeline โ€” why am I in rotations right now? why didnโ€™t I start in the fall like everybody else? why do I seem slightly out of sync with the rest of my class?

Right. Let me explain...

Long story short: my school helped me build a timeline that let me grieve, study, and re-enter without losing everything โ€” including my financial aid, my sanity, and my calling. Godโ€™s discernment literally protected me from a decision that couldโ€™ve wrecked me financially before I even had a chance to take the exam.

Is it unconventional? Absolutely. Is it hard knowing I wonโ€™t walk the stage with my original class? Yeah. That one hits different. I love them folks!

But pros and cons to everything, right? God is unfolding this timeline for a reason โ€” every single day I get a little more of the why.

If you got questions about how this actually works โ€” the schedule, the financial aid piece, what a split LOA looks like โ€” drop them below or DM me. I gotchu. ๐Ÿ’œ

DONโ€™T BE MAD!

But Iโ€™ve been holding a testimony to my chest for monthsโ€ฆ

I passed STEP 1 back in December 2025.

Quietly. Privately. Faithfully.

And while I was posting โ€œPrayers from the Prep Room,โ€ God had already moved.

And now? Iโ€™m walking hospital halls I once prayed my way into.

Delayed announcement =ฬธ delayed purpose.
Everything still happened right on time.

If youโ€™re in your waiting seasonโ€ฆ keep going. Your โ€œI been passedโ€ is coming too.

โœจ Comment โ€œI BEEN PASSEDโ€ if youโ€™re claiming your next win. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿพ
