America isn’t a Christian nation.
We are a nation of all peoples, races, religions, abilities, sexuality and diversity.
That’s what makes us strong.
Diversity, equity and inclusion is loving your neighbor.

The Book of Mormon describes a society without rich and poor. So why does working toward one here feel so threatening?

Mormonism taught us to anticipate a better world after death. But people need food, housing, care, and dignity while they’re alive.

Sundays can be some of the most fulfilling and enjoyable days when you’ve left religion behind!

How do you spend your time now that you’re free of the obligation to attend church, get dressed up, and parade your righteousness?

“Families are forever” can offer comfort. It can also crowd out grief—and the time we have with each other now.

My latest Recovering from Religion essay explores Mormonism, Día de Muertos, and remembering our dead without having to earn a reunion. Read it through the link in my bio.

One of the biggest shifts after leaving high-control religion is learning the difference between guilt and shame.

Guilt helps identity a conflict in values and is relationally oriented.

Shame comes when your worth is tied to outcomes.

One helps us repair.

The other keeps us stuck.

A haunted house, but they taught you to fear the exit. 👻

What if the “danger” outside Mormonism is discovering how much of your life gets to belong to you?

Leaving Mormonism, or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) is often a lot more challenging because of the amount of control the organization exerts in your life.

This isn’t about downplaying general Christian Church.

But with a high control religion comes higher costs of extricating it from your life.

Shane Gillis’s SNL monologue and Dan Levy’s response bring this into focus: men need to challenge other men’s misogyny.

For Mormon and ex-Mormon men, that includes examining what you were taught about women’s bodies, availability, and right to refuse.

Leaving the church doesn’t automatically undo entitlement. Your respect for women has to survive hearing “no.”
