Garden-to-table recipes. Eating elsewhere when I can ✈️

Chiang Mai makes it easy to fall in love with a place fast. Green, lush, and laid-back—but bursting with life. You wander the streets (or hop in a tuk tuk when the rain hits), and eat like the world might run out of curry tomorrow. Spicy Khao Soi that wakes you up, a cooking class that shows you how it’s really done, and a Sunday night market where there’s always one more skewer, one more bite, one more reason to stay out a little later. Three days wasn’t enough, but it was one hell of a start. First stop on our two-week honeymoon through Thailand. Next up: Koh Samui. ✈️🌴🇹🇭 by @megscantrell_
The zucchini surplus continues. Today’s solution: herby ricotta #zucchini rolls baked to golden perfection. Summer eating at its most resourceful #growwhatyoueat by @megscantrell_
It’s been dropping below freezing at night here in Reno, so I pulled all the basil from the garden before the frost could get it. And there’s no better way to use it up than a big batch of homemade pesto. Recipe: 6 packed cups basil 1 cup pistachios 1 cup grated parmesan 4 garlic cloves 1 cup olive oil 3 tbsp lemon juice Salt and pepper Blend everything together until smooth. Traditionally pesto is made with pine nuts, but I’ve always used pistachios. I just think it tastes better! #pesto #gardentotable #kitchengarden #renofoodies #growyourownfood by @megscantrell_
It was so good on Saturday, I had to try making it at home! 🥕🍂 @whit.okimoto and @mkokimoto served the most amazing fall-inspired soup at Sierra Supper Club, and they were good enough to share the recipe. Everything roasts on one sheet pan at 425°F until it’s caramelized and charred, then gets blended into the silkiest, most delicious fall soup. Recipe: 1½ lb carrots 1 red bell pepper 4 shallots 1” piece of ginger ¼ cup olive oil ½ tsp cumin 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth ½ cup heavy cream Soup season is officially here! Thanks for sharing this one, Whit and Mike! 🧡 #soupseason #carrotsoup #fallrecipes #renofoodies by @megscantrell_
Champagne, caviar, and gin martinis, and that was just the start. 🥂✨ Whitney and Mike hosted this quarter’s Sierra Supper Club and went all out, bringing fall to life with an incredible menu, thoughtfully paired drinks, and the kind of details that make a night unforgettable. The roasted carrot bisque alone deserves its own appreciation post. Every layer of flavor was on point, the elk osso buco practically fell off the bone, and each course brought something special to the table. Add great friends, a little sherry to finish, and the best crew in Reno closing it down. Another spectacular night in the books, and somehow, the bar keeps getting higher. #supperclub #dinnerparty #fallmenu #renofoodies by @megscantrell_
Late to the sourdough party, but I made it. Olives, rosemary, and lemon zest 🫒🍋 **Olive rosemary lemon sourdough (1 loaf)** • ½ cup active starter • 1½ cups lukewarm water • 4 cups bread flour • 1½ tsp salt • ¾ cup Kalamata olives, chopped and patted dry • 1 tsp chopped rosemary • Zest of 1 lemon #sourdough #sourdoughbread #olivebread #rosemarysourdough #homebaking by @megscantrell_
Diving with turtles, sailing the Nā Pali Coast, eating our weight in poke, fire dancers, and one last sunset that ended with us getting absolutely drenched on the walk home. The perfect end to our time in Kauai 🌺🌊 by @megscantrell_
Koh Samui was a mix of good food, salty hair, and memorable adventures. A cooking class in the jungle, scuba diving in Koh Tao, a scooter ride that felt both fun and mildly questionable, beers at sunset, delicious street food in Fisherman’s Village, a little beach yoga to balance it all out, and slow mornings with coffee on the patio. Easy days, good flavors and cold drinks. Next stop Bangkok ✈️🇹🇭 by @megscantrell_
That’s a wrap on July! ☀️ by @megscantrell_
A balcony, a glass of red wine, and our first Kauai sunset. Not a bad way to start 🌴 by @megscantrell_
First attempt at Eggplant Parmesan and I think Nana would be proud 🍆 . . . #growyourownveggies #growyourownfood #gardentotable #renofoodies #eggplantparm by @megscantrell_
Happy Birthday America! 🇺🇸 A backyard BBQ, a beautiful day at the lake, and unforgettable memories made with great friends. It doesn’t get much better than that! ❤️🤍💙 by @megscantrell_
