A few shots from my solo exhibition, Fantasías Caseras 🩵☁️✨
I couldn’t be more proud of the new material explorations and body of work I’ve developed for this exhibition, especially all of the ceramic rhinestone sparkly altars.
💎🪩❇️
This show has been such a meaningful opportunity to experiment and push my ideas and themes in new directions, while spending this time thinking through different ways of holding the energy and the essence of home/memory, with a little imagination added into the mix.
🏡💭🌙
I’m also always pushing myself to explore new ways that altars can exist…through different energies with materiality and through imagined spaces. I’m so grateful to everyone who has visited, supported the work, or our text and chats online about the work.
💖💌🫡
I’ll be at the gallery tomorrow ( Sept. 16th ) for a talk at 3 PM, and again on the final day on the show, September 18 at 2:30 PM, for a tour of the space. Hope to see you there! ✨ by @meh.work

✳️ Basurita Mail Club is 1 year old!! ✳️ Time really flies!

Today marks one year since I started this little project. This past year I’ve leaned more into my educator side, and while I’ve loved teaching, I really missed having a consistent art practice of my own. Making a new print every month gave me accountability, a little creative routine, and a reason to keep making even through the many art blocks that came along the way.
✨
I’ve loved sending these colorful little envelopes out into the world, and I hope you’ve enjoyed finding them in your mailbox as much as I’ve enjoyed making them.
✨
August is always a special month for me …Leo season, my birthday (August 18th!), and the month where so many projects that you see today we’re born: my Riso keychains, scrap packs, and of course, Basurita Mail Club.
✨
I could keep rambling about everything this little project has taught me, but mostly I’m just really proud that I kept it going for a whole year. Like… wow!! 🥹

Here’s to one year of Basurita Mail Club and many more colorful envelopes to come. 💌✨ by @meh.work

I’m excited to finally share Fantasías Caseras, my upcoming solo exhibition at @neiu_fineartscentergallery The exhibition will be on view August 24 – September 18, with an opening reception on September 4th from 5–8 PM.
✨
Fantasías Caseras explores dreamlike spaces shaped by my childhood home and memory through cartonería, ceramics, fabric, and corona making, along with playful material experimentation. The exhibition brings together some of my recent work alongside many new pieces I’ve been creating over the past year, exploring new techniques, materials, and different ways of building and thinking about altar making.
✨
I’d love for you to celebrate with me at the opening reception on September 4th from 5–8 PM. I’ll also be available for studio visits in the gallery throughout the exhibition. If you’re interested, send me a DM and let’s plan a visit together.

Hope to see you there. 🌈✨💖 by @meh.work

Finally had time to sit down and do one of my favorite things! A recap for July’s craft fair!
🌈
After my first Renegade Fair went so well, I decided last minute to apply for the Renegade Craft Fair in Logan Square, and I was so excited when I got in! I came in a little more prepared this time with some booth upgrades and new products to test out. Then during setup, I found out my half booth became a full booth all to myself…which was exciting but also gave me some anxiety because I definitely wasn’t prepared for that much space(lol)
✨
It was fun getting to try out new displays, see what people connected with, and watch some new favorites emerge. This event went so well that I sold out of so many things! Thank you to everyone who stopped by, chatted with me, and took home a little piece of Basurita. Every event keeps reminding me how much I love sharing my work this way.
🌈
Now time for some rest/planning, as well as taking some time to build up stock & make new prints. Can’t wait for the next one!

💖- Marylu by @meh.work
