It’s been a minute since I introduced myself here so I thought I would let you know what I look like currently and a bit about me. I wrestle with the frustration of not being able to fully show my thoughts and feelings for you to understand who I truly am. Social media is like that— it’s the little snippets in the cracks, the highlight/lowlight reel. I try really hard to have a balance— being authentic and honest, keeping things real whilst also finding gratitude and joy. It’s impossible to show it all, but I do try. So here’s a glimpse of me and my life ✨

I am a Christian and strongly believe that there is a God above who is the Creator and Saviour of the world. Everything I see and create is through the lens of my faith. There is so much hope and light even in the brokenness and darkness, and I am passionate about helping others.

This year marks:
🏖️ 12 years of living on the Gold Coast
💍 6 years of marriage to my amazing husband (shoutout to him for taking this photo)
🤰🏽4 years of being a mother to 2 gorgeous and wild boys (shoutout to them for teaching me so much)
✨2 years of MEIRA, which came out of birthing my first born and starting to release my writing into the world.

From here, I have since created an Etsy store where I sell printable poems, facilitated mother blessings for friends, discovered a world of doulas and women’s health workers that I never knew existed, started a Substack, started running a playgroup at my church, completed a Women’s Circle Facilitator course called Together by @the_rachael_rose and run my first Online Mothers Circle. I love this space and I’m so proud of how far this little business has come along and the people I’ve met and connected with along the way.

MEIRA means ‘giving or shining light’, and that is my prayer for it— to bring warmth, hope and joy to the world.

I am multi-faceted, just like you. I care deeply for people, I’m an open book, I appreciate deep conversations and stories, I love music and flowers and glitter! And I have also travelled some deep valleys in life that I believe have happened for a reason, so that I might help someone else.

So here’s a glimpse, thankyou for being here.

This is where you’ll find me today, resting in bed with a cup of tea and blankets 😴

I’ll be working through my Doula Course (!) and doing a little bit of work but all high expectations are out the window and I’ll be clocking off socials for a week.

I have so much to do and the house is a mess, but I’m giving myself permission to rest in this time that I’ve got. I was trying to push myself this morning as I woke at 4:30am and was trying to utilise my time. It’s now 9:20 and I’m exhausted.

I know how hard it is to rest when you are also working and mothering and doing all the things, but I’m wondering if there’s any space at all where you can fit a little bit in? We can’t be ON all the time, we need to recharge.

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month 🦋

Did you know 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage? This is a staggering statistic, and my heart goes out to all who have lost and are grieving.

I wrote this poem for a friend who had been through multiple miscarriages and was grieving deeply.

Even though I have not experienced a pregnancy or infant loss myself, I can empathise with those who have and grieve with them. It is my prayer that these words will bring comfort, hope and healing as you process an unfathomable loss or know someone experiencing a loss ❤️‍🩹

This morning I went to the @goldcoastwomenshealthnetwork coffee catchup and it was truly so beautiful to meet with so many amazing women in this space 🩷

I’m Jes, a mother to two gorgeous boys and the founder of MEIRA — a Doula and Mother’s Helper and Circle Facilitator for pregnancy, postpartum and beyond.

After experiencing my own Matrescence, my life transformed and I experienced firsthand how important it is to feel supported, cared for and reminded that you don’t have to do it all alone.

Last Sunday, we gathered with family and friends at a park to join together, to put messages of hope on the threads of the trees, to celebrate and love on our beautiful family that we raised funds for and I got my hair plaited and then shaved! It was a beautiful afternoon and I’m so grateful to all that showed up and supported near and far. ⭐️ by @meira.co_

PSALM 40

1 I waited patiently for the Lord,
and he turned to me and heard my cry for help.
2 He brought me up from a desolate pit,
out of the muddy clay,
and set my feet on a rock,
making my steps secure.
3 He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and they will trust in the Lord.

This Psalm has been a constant reminder that I’ve meditated on when in ‘the pit’ of despair and depression.

HE turned to me and heard my cry.
HE brought me out.
HE set my feet on a rock.
HE made my steps secure.
HE put a new song in my mouth.

I’m going to be honest, on Sunday when I got it cut it felt really freeing and amazing and I quite liked it. But over the last few days, I’ve been coming down from the high and have felt self conscious going out in public. When I’ve felt nervous or anxious I’ve wanted to hide away under my hair, I realise that I have a habit of pushing my hair behind my ears (which I can no longer do) and I feel lighter but with that there is no weight of comfort. It’s strange and I look at myself in the mirror and hardly recognise myself.

It’s all part of it. This is the uncomfortable part. And so many people go through so many uncomfortable things. This is the least I can do.

So here’s to embracing the uncomfortable and change 💛 by @meira.co_

Okay, here’s the cringiest transition from long to short. I just had to do it. An ode to my younger years where Hannah Montana was everything. I really do feel like a new person, it’s been so strange!

Yesterday we had the absolute pleasure and joy of presenting the family of the fundraiser over $5000 from close friends and strangers they’ve never met— joining together as a community to support this incredible family who have been through huge challenges over the last few years. What a journey they have been on and are still on.

It was so beautiful to see baby L walking unassisted and T bringing so much joy as he always does. Their parents are incredibly strong and resilient, constantly advocating for them and facing many trials and stress along the way.

This donation will not take away the struggles they’ve faced, they’ve been changed forever. However it is our hope and prayer that it can bring some respite and be useful to their family.
