October :) by @mel_smith_1111
I always love popping over to Liverpool. The amazing buildings never fail to impress me, its such a beautiful city. Top birthday lunch with the fam and perfect autumn weather 😍. by @mel_smith_1111
I wanted to post about the Poi-Kalon complex as its got a good story attached! I went a few times to catch the buildings in different light. I still can't believe I got to see somewhere so beautiful. This religious site in Bukhara from the 12 century consists of 3 buildings built around a square; a mosque, a madrasah and a massive 46 meter brick minaret. Legend has it that as Genghis Khan swept across the land destroying most things in his path, he rode into the square and whilst looking up at the tower, his hat fell off his head. In bending down to pick it up he remarked that he had never bowed to anyone but this towering structure was so magnificent that out of respect he ordered it to be spared. by @mel_smith_1111

I bloody loved Bukhara 😍. by @mel_smith_1111
A few weeks ago I met a lovely lady in a cake shop in Antalya. We got chatting and she was from Uzbekistan. She invited me to meet her when I was in Tashkent....I was abit nervous about this but at the same time thought fuck-it, so l did. She came to pick me up from my hotel and she said 'oh my driver is outside', I thought she meant a taxi driver...NO, she meant her chauffeur!!! She took me to this new art gallery that I had wanted to see but I hadn't had time to fit it in my plans. It was in an old 1912 building that had originally been a power station for the city's first tram, it was brilliant! Then she took me to meet her sisters at a restaurant and we had the most amazing food! I had such a gorgeous, unexpected afternoon.... sometimes you just need to say yes! by @mel_smith_1111
Bet you have all been waiting for the concrete! 😝. I didnt have long in Tashkent but obviously went on a mission to find as many Soviet Brutal buildings as I could.....I was in concrete heaven. Thrown a few of the metro stations in for good measure as they were fabulous. Ive still got 10 billion photos to post, apologies in advance. by @mel_smith_1111
Im all out of sync now but back to my first stop in Uzbekistan and the amazing Registan Square - a public square with 3 enormous ancient tile covered Islamic schools known as Madrasahs. Built between 1417 and 1660 they are utterly gorgeous whatever time of day you view them. My eyes were on storks 👀 by @mel_smith_1111
I dont think many British tourists make it to Ankara but I had a 24 hour layover from Tashkent so I jumped at the chance as ive always wanted to go! As suspected, I bloody loved it! Headed straight to Anıtkabir which is the mausoleum of their beloved Atatürk: the founder of modern Turkey. You have to walk miles through this beautiful wooded parkland which makes it feel like you are on a pilgrimage, it was absolutely beautiful and the mausoleum was so stunning that it was worth going to Ankara for this alone. by @mel_smith_1111
I came back to this sunset view this evening! 😍 by @mel_smith_1111
Hotel Uzbekistan channelling its inner Wes Anderson New crush 😍 by @mel_smith_1111
I absolutely loved Bukhara, such a different vibe to Samarkand. Its proper desert terrain....I felt like i was in Arabian Nights. I loved getting lost around all the alleys looking for a cute doorway or any interesting shadows or textures. Im not strange at all 🤣. by @mel_smith_1111
