The comprehensive urban experience of the city of Lima is now impossible. The capital of Peru is the cradle of various provincial cities and cultures. People from Lima move regularly through an average of six districts (in which they live, study, work, shop and have fun) and are almost completely unaware of the other thirty-seven. Chaotic growth, insufficient transversal connection roads, an obsolete and dangerous public transportation system are factors that threaten cohesion. In addition to physical barriers, there are symbolic walls that also fragment the city.

The young migrants from Eastern Lima who moved to the capital in search for a better life, work in the lowest paid jobs and the ones who live below the poverty line have nothing to share with those who have cried over the prices of the most expensive supermarket and take refuge every summer on the city most exclusive beach clubs.

Despite sociocultural differences, sophisticated mechanisms of distinction, and silent but effective racist prejudices, Lima residents mainly share television, food and music. Who has not eaten a ceviche either at a Michelin Restaurant or in a crowded market? Who has not danced a cumbia or one of its derivatives? The joys unite us, the pains separate us.

The cultural image of a Lima with a single center has irreversibly cracked. From colonial Lima, we still preserve the racial heterogeneity, the love for incessant partying, the taste for satire, the attraction for what is foreign, and an emphatic patriotism. Colonial Lima was always a recipient of immigrant populations (Africans, Chinese, Japanese, Italians), but modern Lima is an exporting nest of young and not so young people to countries all over the world.

𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗖𝗛𝗔

This collection is inspired by the chicha movement from the city of Lima, which goes beyond a culture, a drink or a connotation of bad taste. Chicha, in my opinion, is a mobile system of traditional, modern and global meanings that use the hybrid formats of the provincial migrant and the entrepreneurial urban Lima native.

Andean orality, street speech, kitsch style, cumbia with all its variants and derivations, the sensationalist press, and thick television humor are the great matrix in which the majority of Lima residents communicate, interact and recognize themselves socially, forming a set of values and attitudes towards life that fulfill the classic functions of social
cohesion.

INTRODUCING CHICHA seeks to break the
traditional patterns of fashion by mixing the essence of Lima with the Peruvian high-quality textiles, obtaining a colorful, humorous, structured and elegant result.
