☀️ Who is responsible for sun protection?

Last week, our CEO @caffeinebaker took that question to the Global Melanoma Coalition meeting in Baltimore, USA.

Children can learn protective habits, but adults and organisations must make those habits possible. That’s what we’re working towards through Sunguarding®: helping schools, Scouts, sport and outdoor organisations make sun protection part of everyday practice.

🌍 It was a privilege to share the Melanoma Fund’s work and learn from people tackling this challenge around the world.

Thank you to the team at @curemelanoma for bringing us together. We came home with new connections and ideas for what we could do together, plus a renewed excitement to continue our mission to tackle melanoma.

We attended the 100th Gilwell Reunion to support greater awareness around sun and heat safety within the @scouts. With over 500 responses, 500 bottles of @delph_suncare and UV Sunguard handed out we now have all we need to make scouting safer for all! Watch this space… by @melanomafund

Working together to help shape safer scouting ☀️

Sun and heat are part of outdoor Scouting - but protection needs to work in practice.

Through Sunguarding®, we are working with @scouts to understand what works, what gets in the way and what could be done better.

At Gilwell Reunion, volunteers will be sharing their experiences through our Sun Safety Review, helping shape practical support for better sun and heat protection across Scouting.

Sponsored by @delph_suncare who is providing SPF30 sunscreen for all completing the review at the event to help remove barriers to protection.

We're proud to be supporting the @educationgovuk Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme again this summer. As thousands of children spend more time outdoors, UV and heat protection should be as routine as hydration and safeguarding.

Working with local authorities, we are helping HAF providers to:
☀️ Deliver free 20 minute Sunguarding® workshops for provider networks.
📚 Access practical, evidence-based guidance on managing UV and heat
risk.
📢 Use free educational resources that help staff understand the risks and
build lifelong healthy habits.
🌿 Introduce UV Safety Stations that make sun protection easy and visible.

Every child deserves to enjoy the outdoors safely. Together, we're helping make sun and heat protection a normal part of children's summer activities.

We’ve worked with the R&A to ensure free sunscreen is available at the Championships for several years - but agreed, across golf and outdoor sport, there is still far more we can do.

UV risk matters for everyone: players, staff, volunteers and spectators.

“Health and safety has gone mad.” We hear that phrase all the time.

Yet one of the biggest occupational cancer risks facing construction workers is still largely overlooked.

It was a pleasure to contribute to this Construction News feature highlighting why UV exposure deserves to be recognised as a genuine workplace hazard.

We don’t make hard hats or safety boots optional, so why do we still treat protection from UV exposure differently?

Perhaps health and safety hasn’t gone mad after all.

Perhaps we’ve simply forgotten that skin is PPE too.

For those outside the creative industry, Cannes Lions is one of the most prestigious and competitive awards programmes in the world, attracting entries from the biggest brands and agencies globally.

For a small UK charity, seeing skin cancer prevention recognised on this stage is something we are incredibly proud of.

☀️ Coaches of girls’ sports teams – have you completed the FREE Sun and Heat Protection Course from the Melanoma Fund?

As the weather gets warmer, girls taking part in sport can be at increased risk of sunburn, dehydration and heat-related illness. Building good sun safety habits early helps protect their health now and in the future.

That’s why it’s so important that coaches, volunteers and team managers understand how to create a safe sporting environment – from planning for hot weather and encouraging hydration, to promoting sun protection and recognising the signs of heat stress.

Honoured to see Peak Exposure, created by @klick.health for the Melanoma Fund, recognised with 6 x Gold wins at the 2026 Clio Health Awards.

By placing melanoma prevention directly into the world of mountaineering and outdoor achievement, the campaign helped reach audiences in a completely different way - generating more than 19 million impressions globally and opening wider conversations around UV exposure at altitude and within outdoor culture.

For us, this reinforces something important: prevention only works when it becomes culturally relevant within the environments people actually live, work and play in.

Thanks to our amazing subjects, Guy Jarvis, Willie Munro @carolinegleich and huge congratulations to Yan Cucco, Tim Jones and the entire Klick Health team on this incredible recognition.

We are delighted to welcome Professor Antony Young @antsyoung as Scientific Advisor to the Melanoma Fund.

Antony is Emeritus Professor of Experimental Photobiology at King’s College London and internationally recognised as one of the UK’s leading experts in ultraviolet radiation and skin photobiology.

His appointment further strengthens the scientific leadership supporting the Melanoma Fund’s prevention and education work, alongside Professor Brian Diffey and our wider multidisciplinary advisory network.

For decades, Antony’s research has helped shape scientific understanding of UV exposure, sunscreen science, skin cancer prevention, and photoprotection, ensuring that public health guidance remains grounded in robust evidence.

As we continue to develop Sunguarding® across schools, sport, outdoor recreation and workplaces, scientific integrity and evidence-led prevention remain central to our mission.
