The NSCA. Wow, let me tell you, what a helluva four years it was. I have served as the head coach, survived two burst pipes, a floor demo, masks, photo shoots, clinics, and navigated some really sassy people inside these walls.

The opportunity to serve the organization that oversees my certification and work with our constituents was truly an honor. Inside this weight room I grew as a human and a coach as I was pushed to do things I never thought I was capable of. So many people believed in a version of Mel that I couldn’t fathom, but to have the support to pursue bigger things has always meant the world to me.

While stepping away from strength and conditioning was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made, I will forever cherish this chapter of my life and hope to circle back one day. I will continue to serve the NSCA and the strength community, just in a different way…stay tuned 😎Thank you to everyone I have met along my journey at HQ here in Colorado Springs.

To my athletes. Holy hell, watching all of you grow, grow up, and get strong as hell in my weight room was remarkable and you all forever hold a special place in my heart. I wish nothing but the best to all of you. Coach Mel, out 🫡

*special note* two people believed in me so much that they gave me this opportunity, so @ashleykowalewski and Scott Caulfield thank you a million times over. taken in NSCA by @melherl

Ladies, thank you for always showing up for me at 6:15am to lift with nothing but smiles, and for your teammates on and off the court, and most importantly for yourselves. There isn’t a damn thing on this earth y’all aren’t capable of. taken in The Incline by @melherl

Last day with the boys. Watching a few of these guys grow up in the weight room, become incredible athletes, and move on to the next stages of their lives and careers has been such an honor. Hang tough, fellas 💪🏻 glad we could beef up those squat numbers a bit. by @melherl

Huge thank you to the @nscaofficial and @coachswisher for allowing me to be part of this incredible addition to the 2022 National Conference hands-on session line up. ALSO a shout out to @usa_weightlifting for transitioning me into the sport 5 years ago.

Every moment I have spent with a barbell in my hand, learning the technique to where I’m now able to give back to the community through education is something I do not take for granted.
