Both are part of healing.

Let me tell you something nobody talks about when it comes to moving abroad…
Living abroad can get lonely.

Before I left the U.S., I wish someone had told me how important building community really is.

When you move to a new country, it’s not just about finding a place to live… it’s about finding your people.

I’ve lived abroad in Mexico, the Philippines, parts of Africa, and Costa Rica, and the one thing that made every place feel like home was community.

This is something I write about in my ebook I’m Not From Here: A Survival Guide to Relocation.

And I’ll also be sharing more about building community abroad at the Black Migration Summit happening online March 27–29.

It’s been two months since I posted… and the pause wasn’t random. My family moved cross country, and right when life started settling, my body required a full stop. No work. No yoga. No gym. Just hospitals, labs, pharmacies… and a kind of stillness that forces you listen.

Which is why today feels loud in the best way. It’s 3/3, a Virgo Full Moon (my Sun sign), a lunar eclipse (Blood Moon), and Mercury retrograde—plus Virgo is ruled by Mercury. Translation: review, release, refine. Especially around health, routines, boundaries, and what you’ve been tolerating because you’ve been “the strong one.” Definitely the theme I learned to let go of…

My kidney journey has been a lesson in balance and boundaries—what I’m carrying that isn’t mine.

Today is a powerful day and if you want a simple ritual for this season: clear one small space (wallet, inbox, bathroom drawer) and name what you’re releasing. Then journal: What needs to change so my life actually supports me?

I’m closing out 2025 with a full heart and a deeper respect for capacity.

Thank you to everyone who practiced with me, trained with me, hired me, traveled with me, and trusted me — in yoga, in relocation, in Soul Contract readings, and in all the ways we’ve crossed paths.

This year I brought big things to life: Yogis Choice Academy with three graduating cohorts (one Yoga Nidra, two 200-hour YTT).

And my highlights were even better. I led a meditation at a beachside gathering. I taught couples yoga with my wife — something that was literally on my vision board. I co-created The Manifestation Portal with Kenya. That’s legacy work. And I learned how to play pickleball (and yes… I’m hooked).

One of the sweetest moments of the year was having my sister and my nephew come visit for my birthday. It lined up with the Wallaba Parade in Puerto Viejo, and being able to celebrate with them here — and let them witness the life I’ve built — felt like a full-circle blessing.

But I’m not romanticizing the hustle. This year required strength — mentally, physically, emotionally. And the lesson I’m taking with me is simple: I can’t pour from an empty cup and call it service.

So for 2026, I’m choosing ease. I’m choosing fun. I’m choosing freedom. I’m choosing to take care of myself while still showing up with excellence. Next year will be less yoga and more coaching — a return to the foundation I built my business on in 2018.

What are you calling in for this next year? I hope you make it. And I can’t wait to meet you in the new.

Hola y’all — felt like the right moment for a reintroduction.
I’m Mel.
 Queer Black woman. Wife. Mother. Expat living on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. Someone who packed up her whole life, trusted her spirit, and rebuilt her life to fit her desires.

Behind everything I do is the woman who feeds not just my belly, but my mind, body, spirit, and soul.

Today we celebrate 3 years of marriage.

I chose our wedding date on purpose — 11•11•22 — because I knew it carried magic.

In numerology, 11 is the number of divine partnership and spiritual awakening — that mirror energy where two souls reflect each other’s truth.

And 22 is the Master Builder — the vibration of creating something real, rooted, and meant to last.

Together, 11-11-22 is a portal for love, purpose, and legacy — exactly what we’ve been building from day one.

To my soulmate, @chefmeycostarica — my love, my calm, my fire — you are the reason I have the life I prayed for.

Thank you for being on this journey with me. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it with you.

We have so much fun together — laughing, dreaming, creating, and building a life that’s uniquely ours.

Your love gives me life. It fuels everything I do — every class, every session, every retreat, every workshop, every course, every dream we bring to life together.

Thank you for being my greatest teacher, my safest place, and my greatest love.
