Thanks to @latimes and writer Jessica Gelt for including Dream Drops in today’s LA Times Essential Arts ! Jessica talks about my new coloring book and also takes a step back to a very special time & place in Los Angeles 💙 (Link in bio).

Jessica is an old friend. She was in one of coolest bands around. If you were in Los Angeles 25+ years ago, and stepped into the indie-rock scene, you’ll remember the Movies ! Jessica touches on a really special time for all of us when we circled around each other and bounced creativity off each other. The inspiration was contagious. It was super magical ⭐️
Thank you Jess ❤️❤️

The process of making Dream Drops was about reversing my usual process. Simplifying how I usually do things. It’s for everyone that wants to tune in… and get in a coloring mood! Link in bio 🩵🧡🩷💛❤️ by @melkadel

So many birds ! But there’s never really too many. I watched Hitchcock movies like it was a sport when I was young. Drawing birds never gets old to me 🦅 I added a bunch of originals to my shop. by @melkadel

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Rodney Chips !! My best friend is turning 14. He’s only a couple years away from getting his driver license. We found him on a hillside in Echo Park when he was a puppy. He wouldn’t take no as an answer, and made sure we kept him. I thank him every day, out loud, for being so sweet and keeping my heart so full. You’re a weirdo Rod! Never change ❤️ by @melkadel

Mel Kadel has spent decades building a world entirely her own. Through intricate linework, repeating forms, and quietly powerful female figures, her paintings explore resilience, connection, and transformation.

After more than twenty years in Los Angeles, where she began exhibiting in DIY gallery spaces, Mel’s work has reached audiences across the world. We’re excited to share a collection from an artist with a visual language that’s instantly recognizable and wholly her own. taken in Preacher Gallery by @melkadel

AUSTIN, TX! I’m so happy to announce a new show I’m a part of, entitled BLUR. Opening Aug. 6th, at Preacher Gallery.

The exhibit includes work from 7 women. All with such different styles and process, but also a shared spirit of personal identity, emotion, and storytelling.

📸’s by @danmonick, for @juxtapozmag (2014). I was pretty awkward in front of a camera, so we took inspo from one of my drawings (legs dangling out from a tree). From the knees down, I was so much more comfortable. Thanks Dan 😉 by @melkadel
