Eyes of the Forest - I made this piece at KCAI’s pre college art camp with the theme “Mythical Self Portrait”. My inspiration for this piece was American folklore monsters like Bigfoot, Mothman, or the Chupacabra. I connected it with an experience I had where I saw a deer with atypical antlers, this is where a deer will grow too many antlers in the wrong spots. I combined the monsters I grew up hearing about with the story of the atypical deer to make my own personal monster into a sculpture. taken in KCAI Gallery by @melodical__art

DayDreamer - this was one of my first successful pieces and my 3rd ceramic figure ever. It was chosen to go to NCECA’s K12 Clay competition in 2025 and it was awarded KCAI’s 25k 4 year scholarship. It was honestly the first time I got recognized for my work in a substantial way and the conference was the coolest thing I’d ever seen, so many professional sculptors were doing what I thought wasn’t even possible. taken in Houston,TX by @melodical__art

Petunia - This piece is inspired by the idea that nature will always take back manmade creations given enough time. She is a forgotten statue that has been overtaken by nature to become anew as she blooms into a flower. The seed the flower grows from is in the place of the pituitary gland to symbolize you can always grow and become someone new even when you feel left behind. taken in Houston,TX by @melodical__art

My terracotta piece, DayDreamer, got selected for Scholastic as a Gold Key! This means it will be going on to the next round of judging, which is against all the gold keys in a national competition. This is now the second national competition this piece will be competing in! Congrats to everyone who got a gold key ❤️ taken in Houston,TX by @melodical__art

Renee - This piece was a hard challenge to me as an artist new to ceramics. For this piece I had to learn how to coil build and how to sculpt a human body for the first time. This was also my first attempt at sculpting somebody I know and it turned out quite well, my model is in the last photo. taken in Interlochen Summer Arts Camp Michigan by @melodical__art

Dance of the Thunderbird - The Thunderbird is a Native American legend, specifically in the Great Lakes of Michigan, of a huge hawk whe brought rain and prosperity: The Thunderbird is the center of Native American folklore and influenced the cuture greatly. The Thunderbird was a symbol of power when it flapped its wings thunder was heard, rains poured off its wings, and lightning struck out of its beak when it screamed. The Thunderbird brought rain to the lands and struck down the evil spirits of the land. I made this piece to show the dances for the Thunderbird through ceramics. I made this peice at Interlochen’s summer art camp. taken in Interlochen Summer Arts Camp Michigan by @melodical__art

The Lady in the Lake - This piece was made to look like a woman laying on her back in water with only her face visible above the water. It was a challenge to do a horizontal figure instead of a full bust. Up until now I had only done full 3D standing figures, this piece was totally different and it posed a unique challenge when sculpting. I glazed her a dreamy white and blue color to make it look as if she is potentially a ghost, lying face on the water eternally. taken in Houston,TX by @melodical__art

Angelica - For this piece I wanted to create my own idea of an angel. I wanted to capture the feeling of “heavenly” in a solid, inanimate object. By making her head incomplete and using bright blues, white, and gold I tried to channel that feeling. I cut her eyes straight through into holes to reference the saying, the eyes are the window to the soul. taken in Houston,TX by @melodical__art

Dotty - This piece was inspired off watercolor paintings. I wanted to challenge myself to imitate a difficult painting style in my glaze verses with paints. I layered blues, greens, and reds repeatedly and used water to wipe away the excess. Through this process I was able to create my watercolor effect on my sculpture of a girl looking over her shoulder. taken in Houston,TX by @melodical__art

Rodeo Reckoning - This piece was made for the Houston Rodeo Art Competition. This piece is a bull escaping from his harness. As he runs away he bucks into the air expressing his new found freedom. I wanted to challenge myself with this piece by doing an action pose, compared to my previous works there usually is not a lot of movement, but that is something I am working towards improving on. taken in Houston,TX by @melodical__art
