Even with a foggy 0 visibility peak the views along the way never missed… plus a few bears encounters for good measure

@jenna_does_stuff thanks for guiding both our first Panorama Ridge trail! Anyone willing to hike 28.5 km on 4 hours of sleep with me is someone I’m glad to have by my side, can’t wait to see what we tackle next ⛰️ taken in Panorama Ridge Trail by @melodie.dolbec

Wow.

If you’d told little Mel she’d one day run a half marathon, she would’ve laughed in your face.

Long-distance running has never been easy for me. A 5km was challenging, and I literally quit soccer after one year because it was too much running 😅 Needless to say, I avoided it at all costs.

As a team-sport athlete, I was used to having people around me, so running alone never appealed to me.

I don’t know what it was about turning 26, maybe being closer to 30 than 20…but something lit a fire under my ass. I wanted a goal, a challenge, and a release.

Running has changed who I am.

The discipline, training, and mental strength have given me so much more than I expected. I’m so lucky that I CAN run, that I GET to run, and that I genuinely love it.

I signed up for Seawheeze with friends. Very team-sport mindset, I couldn’t commit to my first half alone, especially in a city I don’t live in.

So imagine my spiral when, last minute, I realized I’d be doing this alone.

But maybe that’s exactly what the universe wanted.

I needed to prove to myself: I CAN do this. It was time to regain my independence and start doing things for ME. Just me. What a concept?

For years I’d told myself I “need to get into running,” and signing up for this half was the push I needed.

BIGGEST shoutout to @jorge_arenasp , Neal (no Insta) and @isaac.morgado

Isaac was one of my pacers and could tell how nervous I was at the start. He got me chatting, out of my head and was so motivating!
Serendipitously, I was standing next to Jorge and Neal, who were also there alone and had already run halves. They gave me the best advice, and we instantly clicked. Somehow, these guys I met at the start line ended up running most of the race with me and being my people the rest of the day.

Three people from different places, all there for the same goal. And that’s one thing I’ve learned through running: theres a VIBE.

Positive, enthusiastic, supportive… it FEELS like a team sport. You’re running for you, but you’re never really running alone.

Maybe that’s what I needed to learn most.

#seawheeze 2026, you’ve altered my brain chemistry forever.
