They say good mothers sacrifice their dreams. I learned the opposite.

I learned that from my mum. Before I was born, she was training for the Olympics while studying medicine. She didn’t win a medal at the Games, but her story showed me that the pursuit itself—the courage to step into a dream—can be transformative.

For years, I’ve nourished the dream of writing children’s books, and recently, I’ve been more intentional about it and my kids have noticed.

Just the other week, my 5-year-old showed me his “books.” He can barely write more than his name but that didn’t stop him.

Because when mothers dream, our children learn to dream too. ✨

A quick post to give a shoutout to @afroribooks a wonderful bookshop and community space I had the privilege of visiting with my kids last month for the book launch of @corinnebaileyrae 🎶
They are currently running a campaign to stay open and need to sell 1000 books this month. Add to your TBR pile without guilt by knowing you’re supporting a great cause and/or get a book for the birthday(s) you have coming up 😉

Did you know that Mother’s Day was created as an anti-war protest? I didn’t but just found out thanks to @delwboy (go watch his video about it). As we celebrated Mother’s Day in the UK, it was impossible not to think about mothers around the world doing their utmost to provide for their children, shelter them (physically and emotionally) from war, displacement, uncertainty, and unimaginable loss.

I decided to honour a mother in my life by making a donation in her name to help provide essential aid to families in Gaza — food, medical support, and basic necessities for mothers doing everything they can to protect their children. #motherhoodknowsnoborders

Spooky theme for this year’s World Book Day due to my 5 y-o last minute costume change 😅💀📚

Despite the stress of sorting out costumes, I love #WorldBookDay ✨ Inspiring kids to read is so important. I really believe reading helps children (and adults!) imagine, dream, and see possibilities beyond the world in front of them. And dreaming of alternative futures is the first step toward creating change.

That doesn’t mean every book needs to be “deep” or carry a message about activism. What matters most are the stories that spark curiosity, stretch imaginations, and bring joy. It all helps our little ones exercise their dreaming muscles.
