I’m so slow at posting things these days but good times were most definitely had with my beautiful friend @rosiealicesheehy

We went to the @schwarzmancentre in Oxford to see @kaetempest for a powerful & moving evening of poetry and prose like you’ve never heard …
The acoustics were something else & we were both sat in the front row totally mesmerised & tears streaming down our faces at times 💚

Well birthday number 59 was rather lush & spent in & around my beloved Avebury 💚💫🫶🏻
Big thanks to my loved ones for making it so special for me & also to Brandon & Matteo at @dukehotelhilmarton for making sure I had such a wonderful time staying in my favourite place 🫶🏻
I always love going there & the food is literally GF heaven ✨
The sunset brought a spectacular end to a beautiful day as I embark on my 60th year with so much to be grateful for & so many big changes ahead.

30 years of my wonderful daughter @myffipuleston 😍✨🙌🏼
Or Myfanwy Cariad as we named her in spite of living in the non Welsh speaking part of Tooting Broadway ..
Carousels aren’t anywhere near big enough to show the breadth & depth of her many talents & the joy she brings to so many ..
literally the most thoughtful, loving & deeply considerate person I know .. ❤️
Can’t really even begin to describe the feelings & memories that have flashed in and out all day today as I remembered that day 30 years ago .. the first contractions at the checkout in M&S in Tooting, the crazy drive over speed bumps whilst in labour 😱😂, the amazing staff at Chelsea and Westminster hospital who helped deliver her safely into the world
So grateful for you & all that you are Myffi 🫶🏻✨💜

Really lovely evening at @nnfilmfestival yesterday with @juliemayhew 😍
Such a joy to witness this lovely little film she wrote and directed having a life of its own since we made it 2 years ago in a freezing muddy field !
What a pleasure to be part of the Creative & Changemakers selection for this lovely & welcoming film festival alongside some other really great short films 💚🫶🏻✨

Friday saw me head into London to go to the theatre ..
I deliberately didn’t read any reviews ..
After all, that’s not necessary when I’m going to see a play starring my beautiful friend @rosiealicesheehy as it’s a no brainer that it’s going to be a helluva night ..
I’ve admired so much of her amazing work over the years since we first met and am always in awe of her power and truth on stage and in real life..
Yet somehow she manages to find another level of sincerity & commitment to playing a character that is unmatched ..
The poignancy of the relationship conjured by her and Robert Aramayo was palpable ..
So raw .. so real .. to witness grief like this was physically painful ..
to the point where I just wanted to run up on stage at the end to make sure she was ok ..
I didn’t obviously ..
It was such a tough story to tell and watch but it touched parts of me that needed hearing and healing .. ❤️‍🩹
After the applause died down , the lovely lady who was sat next to me as we both wiped our tears and hugged each other asked me to pass on to Rosie that this was the best thing she had ever seen..
So there you are Rosie, you are the bravest & the best & I love you dearly 💚🤗🫶🏻

Watch out for strobing on videos 🌟

Last week my amazing daughter @myffipuleston surprised me with tickets to go see @underworld in Brixton 🫶🏻
I had tried and failed to get tickets when they first went on sale so was absolutely over the moon to get a call from her asking if I still wanted to go !
I am still smiling whenever I think about it 😄
Hands down one of the best nights I’ve ever had 💚🐍👑
To be there with her dancing our hearts out was sheer unadulterated joy !
I’ve been lucky enough to see them several times before but it was her first time so it was just wonderful to share that experience with her and they were just unbelievable ✨ so so fantastic 😍
Hands up one of the best shows I’ve ever seen them play 🙌🏼
To be free, to dance, to feel the love & that incredible energy that they create was the medicine I didn’t know I needed ..
Nice the old knees still held up after 2.5 hours solid raving too 😂

This post really caught my eye..
well at least the eye that is much more hooded & drooping than ever before.
I will turn 59 next year & this year I have noticed an alarming level of facial sagging & deep lines that no amount of collagen or face yoga will ever reverse .. I confess the eyelid drooping really bothers me because I used to think my eyes were my best feature ..
I have always had a very expressive face & now it shows .. yet this has become such a hard thing to accept when I look in the mirror & that saddens me deeply.
That we are still so judged & judge ourselves so harshly by the way we look.
I sometimes wish I had been more high maintenance in terms of skincare etc but I just didn’t care really.
I was too busy attempting to be a Mum & build a successful career.
When phones arrived I eschewed filters & politely refused when an “aesthetic” nurse offered me an unsolicited but discounted Botox sesh to fix my frown lines, which left me feeling pretty insulted actually.
It’s so hard to resist the narrative that as women our attractiveness & beauty are always on a downward spiral whereas men are free to age gracefully with never a comment on how they have so carelessly lost their looks..
We applaud women who don’t have cosmetic procedures as though they are freaks of nature, bizarrely brave enough to be be themselves without alteration.. but they have become oddities .. exceptions to the smooth puffed up injected norm..
As an actress who spent much of her career behind a voiceover mic, my face was not my fortune so maybe it was easier that way ..
When @juliemayhew asked me to be in her short film The Gymnast last year I was elated & genuinely had no care or worry about what I would look like on screen, but when the reality of seeing myself on a big screen hit, I admit I was shocked by how old I looked ..
But isn’t that just ridiculous ? I’m nearly 60, how old SHOULD I look ?!
I look my age, maybe even older cos I’ve got smokers cats arse mouth lines, but wtf, why are we still doing this to ourselves ?
Frankly right now I’m just grateful to be here 💚
A director once said I wouldn’t work till I was older because I wasn’t pretty enough.
