Hello, It’s Lorna. I’ve set up this @mendingmagic account because I realised that my @lornasaurus account was full of mending!

If you don’t know me yet I’m a visible mending teacher and artist specialising in accessible creative workshops that support mental health.

I love combining traditional mending techniques with contemporary embroidery to visibly repair and extend the lives of clothing and textiles, and creating relaxed spaces for learning where sustainability, creativity, and people can flourish together.

If you’re coming to Yarndale make sure to make time to visit the Making Space. You’ll find lots of free opportunities to make, meet and chat. Come along, try something new, share your skills and enjoy making with others. You could knit or crochet a square with @knitthestripes Craft for Climate and Knit for Abigail. Bring along something you’d like to mend and have a go at different mending techniques guided by Lorna Johnstone of @mendingmagic . @north_yorkshire_yarn_trail are joining us again and you can make circles to add to our Worldwide Creative Project. Explore Bradford’s rich mix of cultures through collaborative making, weaving together stories and creativity with Intercultured Festival & Bradford Immigration and Asylum Support and Advice Network. We’re delighted to welcome @north_yorkshire_libraries . Join them and relax with a spot of cross stitch and create a unique bookmark. I worked on a holey pair of shorts today reinforcing with a patch, securing the hole edges and marking a grid to stitch a sashiko design.

3. Boro type mending on a very old, worn shirt I have had for many years and that my dad wore before me

Sashiko is known for its blue and white colour palette and repeating designs, and is especially good for denim repairs.
