The restaurant was conceived in close dialogue with Copenhagen-based architectural studio Mentze Ottenstein. We have worked together for many years, on places including Sofi Bakery in Berlin and Atelier September Århusgade in Copenhagen.

The project was about transforming an existing office space into a restaurant without erasing what was already there. We wanted to work with the raw and straightforward character of the building, adding a new façade, the dining room, a large open kitchen and carefully made elements that bring warmth and character.

The contrasts became important to us. The raw and industrial against something more refined and domestic. Hard surfaces next to softer things, something precise next to something a little more accidental. It creates a balance, but also a room where the eye can keep discovering things.

I like spaces that don’t feel too finished. Places that become themselves through the people using them — through food, flowers, music, conversation and all the small things that happen over time.

Daphne was made for life and fun. And hopefully it will keep changing with us.

Thank you Gisela Williams for the words, Philip Messmann for the photographs, and everyone at Daphne for making the restaurant what it is.

Today at 5pm is the inauguration of our new permanent installation at Søndermarken Krematorium’s Room of Departure.

Five pre-modern pieces of furniture from the 1700s to early 1900s have been cast in bronze.

A direct cast process where a mould was created around the furniture, which was then fired in a kiln, leaving only the cavities of the original pieces behind, for the molten bronze to be poured into.

The pieces are placed in dialogue with the mural by Georg Jacobsen from the 1930s.

The project was commissioned by Ny Carlsbergfondet who also funded the conservation of the mural by The National Museum of Denmark.

Everyone is welcome at the unveiling today.

Supported and commissioned by @nycarlsbergfondet

For this year’s 3 Days of Design we have collaborated with Tekla once again, exploring the craft traditions of Sweden and Scandinavia.

The cabin beds are our interpretation of a traditional Scandinavian alcove bed, with the woodwork of the cabinet doors taking patterns from the quilts on display – turning the bed into a piece of architecture.

Discover the exhibition at Charlottenborg, open 10-12 June from 10am-6pm.

Renew. Realign. Reimagine.

In Volume XIII, architects Mathias Mentze and Alexander Ottenstein from @mentzeottenstein reflect on their rewilding of Dinesen's 19th-century thatched-roof farmhouse in Southern Jutland, which is now used as a guesthouse for collaborators by the century-old Danish wood trader.

New flagship store for @teklafabrics in London designed by us!

Tekla Marylebone opens this week, the first permanent location for the brand outside of Copenhagen. For the project we tried to combine Tekla’s love for clean spaces with our own deep-set interest for detailing and joinery.

The custom-built retail units in cherry wood with panels in British wool create a subtle and flexible environment for the Tekla universe. Vintage Aalto pieces, ceramics by Sara Flynn, a Pierre Chapo bed, Paavo Tynell lamps, all complete the domestic feeling of the space.

Go see it if you’re in London!
