An LA weekend with @dnsbray and Sagey the wonder dog. D left us on Saturday to visit family so Sagey spent the day waiting for D to come home. My dear one @officialjessicarose is 2 days past her due date and she's waiting with ALMOST as much waitingness as Sagey waiting for D. I looked up at one point and saw @p22mountainlion in the tree above but it turned out to be a ginger cat. Then a bunch of us went to see @luceloveslight perform her brilliant one woman show about #haïti. It's a wonderful life. Here's a tech mystery that, given recent warnings, somehow feels ominous. This photo appeared in my Photos collection. I've never seen this sandwich before. I did not take the photo. It didn't come to me via text or email. It's time-stamped 12:35 AM on 9/21. At that time, my phone was plugged in bedside and I was asleep next to it. I've never been to the store named on the sandwich wrapper. I haven't been to Santa Monica in months. How did it come to me? Did my phone's AI take a trip across town in the middle of the night, have a nice midnight snack, then reinhabit the phone next to me? Is this the beginning of the end? OMG @pijjapalace ! I can walk there from my house and yet somehow the idea of "Indian-Italian comfort food" didn't ring my bell--until @chattyksc dragged me there and forced me against my formidable will to order their Caesar salad with mango pickle and chaat breadcrumbs, and Dosa onion rings, and Chili Garlic Toast, and Green Tikka Masala Pijja and Cookies and Cardamom ice cream and then we started chatting with the adorable couple at the next table who advised us to order their Malai Rigatoni and we said MAYBE that might be one plate of carbs too many so they ordered the pasta FOR us and had it sent to our table and it too was out of this world and oh! I forgot to mention that @chattyksc and I showed up wearing the same top (Cathy got me mine) and jeans and the same #persister necklace which Cathy had made for both of us and OMG what a delish meal and fun #silverlake night! taken in Pijja Palace by @meredithmaran

Late-stage capitalism, exhibit one. For the past 2 years I've been driving by this construction site--Hollywood's first ground-up studio complex built from scratch in over 50 years--500,000 square feet of production studios, "creative office space," parking for 981 cars, restaurants, etc.--wondering who's going to work there since the industry has been decimated by COVID, strikes, streaming TV, runaway production to cheaper places, and let us not forget fucking AI, losing 40,000 jobs since 2022. And today, the news that Paramount might leave its huge complex empty, a mile away. When profit is all that matters, capitalists gonna capitalize. So much to say about this anniversary. But for now I'll call your attention to where it might already be: the depravity behind the cover up of the illnesses and deaths that could have been prevented if the country and the city of New York and the capitalist system put people over profit. I'll never forget George W Bush and Giuliani urging New Yorkers to rush back into workplaces and stores full of toxins--"To show them America can't be stopped."
