POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I cannot believe I’m posting this, & that this is a real article. Loved ones, friends, family - I present to you my profile in @latimes by the brilliant @meredithmaran 🥹😭 This, naturally, means there are more shows happening. How could I resist. Nov 13 & Dec 2 @elysiantheater - link in bio.

To say I am blown away & that this is certainly one of the more surreal moments of my life to date is an understatement. This article is the convergence of too much unbelievable benevolence and good fortune and yes hard fkn work. @meredithmaran, my friend, persister, landlady, neighbor, guide, LA fairy godmother — to share a home with you is one great grand otherworldly gift. To have your brilliant pen & loving, keen, hysterical eye on me is a whole other ballgame. On the day I moved in, never did I think you’d be penning a story about our little life & my play, which began as a backyard reading in Austin 3 years ago, to be published in the national paper. Let alone the Los Angeles Times.

Being seen is part of the work that I do, but I never imagined that this part of the process, my effort & journey & labor, would be captured so stunningly in a national newspaper. I have been crying since I found out, which was as I boarded my flight - literally at the gate - from my hometown to LA a few weeks ago.

There are too many ppl to thank. @matrexk you are my family. The show wouldn’t exist w/o u.My fierce/ hot managers. @claytonfarris thank u for being my friend, cheerleader, & contributing to this piece. @andrewadamsdesign thank you for the brilliant new poster, @bananascones thank you for being my best friend, og producer & choreographer, & styling me for this shoot. @carlinstiehl thanks for selecting pictures in which my abs look better than they usually do & also being cool. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to my show, all of my collaborators & early investors and mentors. Everyone who crowdfunded this in ATX way back when. Thank you to my mother, father, grandmother, sister, & all of my best friends for sharing in the unbridled joy & pride & magnificence of this moment.

My heart could not be more joyful. I love you. Now let’s make a tv show, shall we? 😈😈😈

🕯️🪔 NEXT PROJECT ALERT 🛐🔮🪄 For the last year & a half, I’ve been fastidiously writing draft after draft of my next script, a comedy pilot & spinoff series of Getting in Bed with the Pizza Man— a project I’ve been collecting iPhone notes of and filling journals about for the last five years. This week, I had my first public development reading of the latest draft with an incredible group of actors, writers, & artists— I’m keeping the title secret for now… but let’s call her…. UNTITLED AUSTIN PROJECT . ;)

If you’re wondering why you haven’t seen much o me for the last few months, it’s because I’ve been laboring over the vision for this series like a psychopath, writing countless pages that don’t work (in the 100s), feeling like nothin was quite cracking through. It was driving me nothin short of crazy. But as many of the greats say, when you show up day after day after day, eventually, a tendril is bound to crack through concrete.

🌱 🧟‍♀️👼 Finally, after deadlines with my team, I was forced to turn in my work and (reluctantly) start sharing it. Lo and behold, showing the monster I’ve been making in the lab has made me realize I’m much farther along than I thought.

As I did in the early days of GBPM, I will be sharing the unfolding of this process— which I have been dreaming up from the very beginning (see: the interview about my solo show w the great @rmwhittaker101 in @austinchronicle article from 2023 ;) ). As per the smiles, I don’t think people completely hated it.

In honor of the great Austin cinema actor & legend @thebillwise who we lost way too soon this week, I last min changed a character name to Bill before the reading. Bill, we miss you so much already buddy. I’m so mad I don’t get to cast you in this. But I can promise you I’m keeping your rascally spirit alive within it the best I can - through a project that, in a way, is my love letter to my time in Austin & everyone I love deeply within the town and community. You, good pal, are the very best we had of those special yrs in the scene. 🥺

Tysm to the amazing artists who gathered to speak this baby out loud & out of my head for the 1st time. TO BE CONTINUED ~
