A dramatic sky. strangers, holding on to one rope became one flock. One entity that moves in sync. A herd that watches out for one another.
Words that were written by someone 400 years ago. still true today.
Start small like the oak tree. Whistle. Be silly. Be brave. Try something new. Don’t be afraid to fail. Or be laughed at. Feel incredibly free and alive when you dared. Maybe even succeeded.
Share your mantra. Believe in magic. Just a little bit.

Thank you all for coming out. For joining *three gifts. Two skills and one spell.* and see you for the next one.

Love and gratitude to

@lilika_strezoska who captured my ephemeral practice so beautifully.
@_re_routing_ & @meritsworld for inviting me to lead a walk.
@tjioe.hecken & @dodopositano for including me in this years extraordinary @wehrmuehle & @artbiesenthal show.
Extra love to non-insta Ayla. None of this would exist without you 🧿
And to those listening to me when I question all I do thank you for keeping me going. You know who you are and your forehead kisses mean the world to me. 🤍 by @meritsworld

Thanks to all who joined our afternoon of walk (& talk) actions at @artbiesenthal @wehrmuehle.

@theserendipist led us into the magical forest, where she shared 3 gifts. 2 skills: the medicinal values of Plantain and how to blow on whistle caps. And 1 spell: our very own sigils!

We picnicked and heard from @anatoly.shabalin.k and @nady.mirian on their practices involving hands, part of @_kolchina_’s art direction of the day.

Finally, we soft launched @walkingquestions by @helenaospinaa new t-shirts, that invite us to take a question on a walk. More on these soon!

Big thanks to the exhibition curators @tjioe.hecken + @dodopositano.
And dear @lilika_strezoska for the beautiful pictures.

154-NY exhibiting artist Dana Robinson featured in SLEEK and in conversation with Nisha Merit.

Nisha Merit:
What is your upcoming exhibition at 1–54 about?

Dana Robinson: I created a series of full-body portraits from advertisements, focusing on how Black excellence manifests – what it means and whether it even exists, or if it’s a construct shaped by white supremacist patriarchal culture. I think the idea of excellence can feel like a trap – like perfection, which isn’t really attainable. It’s defined differently by different people, so it’s elusive. To me, Black excellence might simply be people being themselves and feeling free. That’s not perfection, but self-possession. It’s powerful and allows more freedom when we realise there’s no fixed definition.

South Africa is #BIENALSUR! 🇿🇦💫

What does home mean for each of us? In what conditions do we all live?

With this question as a starting point, BIENALSUR presents ⚫️ HOGAR-IKHAYA, an intervention by @diegogmasera 🇦🇷, curated by @meritsworld 🇩🇪, at @niroxfoundation. This intervention is part of the Soil & Water exhibition, curated by @basaksenova and @thom.johan.

“The notion of home is integrated as a concern in this contemporary world, where more than 20% of the global population lives in precarious conditions. However, these precarious situations are also part of the environment, the habitat, and are also part of the condition of human dwelling”, says @wechslerd, artistic director of BIENALSUR.

Diego Masera’s work seeks to confront this reality with an intervention that points to the systemic problem of inequality and, at the same time, highlights beauty, resilience, and dignity.

Millions of people live in informal settlements made up of shacks: improvised structures assembled with whatever is at hand. An architecture of impermanence that reflects their socioeconomic challenges. Hogar, Diego Masera’s work, seeks to confront this reality with an intervention that points to the systemic problem of inequality and, at the same time, highlights beauty, resilience, and dignity.

This exhibition has drawn me into a state of experience that is hard to come by. One could argue that sound and video scapes, in particular, tend to wrap the experience of art around your physical senses by nature of their expansion in space, yet not all do so in that way or to that extent.
I don’t often get annoyed with fellow visitors moving through an exhibition; in fact, I tend to enjoy the dynamic of bodies, words, and objects. But this time, every human body turned into an intense disruption. Mind you, the rooms in @haus_der_kunst are massive. The height is impressive, the doorways and spacious walls are magnificent, in which even large-scale installations like Philippe Parreno’s „Voices“ have enough space to show not only the sheer scale but also the intricate technical details of its production. And yet standing, walking alone amongst these constructions is a whole other level.
I found myself in a continuous teetering on the precipice of fear, mechanical power, surveillance, and control - balanced against the sweet lure of perfection, intelligence, and the excitement of more. Dependency and connectedness, massive cables that determine movement, hold the fragility and preciousness of life - machine and human - the continuous performance and repetition, computing, breathing, systems.
The voices in the soundscapes mostly distant and whispery, carrying the confidence of an all-knowing entity making me turn my head to hear better. But in what direction? Sitting in a construction of moving speakers, of expanding and subtracting sound, in a dark soft environment (not) off this world. taken in Haus der Kunst by @meritsworld

A promenade into the latent space in flux. Space is a funny thing. I feel like an alien in what is supposed to be familiar but also just standing in the middle of this somewhere blows my mind. by @meritsworld

There is such a nostalgic moment in developing analog film. No time stamp, pin or any metadata but the frame, the memory of a moment. The granular surface makes it seem as if from a different time, era, world?
