Recently, Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Jeanie Bell visited a powerful workshop delivered by @showracismtheredcard and supported by @merseysidepolice, highlighting the vital work taking place across our region to challenge prejudice, promote understanding and help build stronger, safer communities.

As we mark Hate Crime Awareness Week, it's important to recognise that raising awareness is not just about one week of action. It is about creating lasting change all year round by educating young people, challenging harmful attitudes and encouraging respect for others.

Workshops like these help equip the next generation with the confidence to stand up against discrimination, celebrate diversity and understand the impact that hate can have on individuals, families and communities.

I am committed to supporting initiatives that tackle hate crime at its root, working alongside partners including Merseyside Police and Show Racism the Red Card to ensure everyone feels safe, valued and respected, regardless of their race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or any other protected characteristic.

Anyone who experiences or witnesses hate crime, it should never be ignored or accepted. Hate crime has a devastating impact on victims and communities, and every report helps ensure support can be provided and action can be taken. You can report hate crime directly to Merseyside Police or through independent charity Stop Hate UK. If it happens to you, or you see it happen to someone else, please speak up and report it.

Together, we can continue to make Merseyside a place where hate has no home.

It was a privilege to officially open our new Community Police Station at Chester Lane Community Hub in St Helens this morning.

I was joined by @merseysidepolice Assistant Chief Constable Karen Jaundrill and officers from the local policing team, as well as St Helens South MP Marie Rimmer, and Deputy Leader of @sthelenscouncil Sharon Roughley, to officially open the new Community Police Station, located within Chester Lane Library in Clock Face.

The facility will strengthen neighbourhood policing in the area, giving officers a central local base from which they can engage with residents, support problem-solving initiatives and patrol the communities they serve. by @merseysidepcc

🎥 ICYMI | See how the YES Fund is helping young people grow, connect and make a difference 🌱💚

We recently visited one of our fantastic YES Fund projects, @theecotherapygarden in Kirkby.

This inspiring project is bringing young people together through nature, helping them develop new skills, boost their wellbeing and build confidence for the future. 🌿✨

But it's about much more than gardening. Young people are learning about social and community value, taking pride in their local area and discovering the positive difference they can make to the communities they call home. 🌍🙌

From growing food and caring for green spaces to supporting others and giving back, they're gaining a real sense of purpose, achievement and belonging. 🌻🤝

We're proud to support projects like this through the YES Fund, creating opportunities for young people to thrive while building stronger, safer and more connected communities across Merseyside. by @merseysidepcc

✍️ BLOG: Standing up for diversity in divisive times.

As Hate Crime Awareness Week approaches, it’s a timely reminder that discrimination has no place in Merseyside or anywhere in our country.

The Prime Minister's recent message of hope, unity and inclusion at the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool is one that should resonate across our region.

Strong communities are built when people feel valued, respected and welcome, regardless of their background, faith, identity or beliefs.

At a time when conversations around race, religion, identity and difference are becoming increasingly polarised, public debate must be conducted responsibly. Healthy discussion and differing opinions are an important part of democracy, but there is a clear line between debate and deliberately stoking division.

We've recently seen events cancelled in our region that celebrate diversity and recognise the histories, cultures and heritage that have helped shape our region. Attempts to undermine or erase those contributions for political gain are irresponsible and wrong.

Those with a public platform should be bringing people together, not driving them apart. When fear, mistrust and intolerance are used to further an agenda, prejudice can become normalised and communities can become less safe and less connected.

Recently, we visited a school on the Wirral where young people were taking part in an anti-racism workshop. Hearing them speak so confidently about challenging prejudice, racism and division was both powerful and inspiring. It gives real hope for the future, but also highlights an uncomfortable truth: some adults could learn a lot from these young people.

National Hate Crime Awareness Week gives us an opportunity to stand with victims, but tackling hate is a year-round priority. If you experience or witness hate crime, please report it, either to @merseysidepolice or to @stop_hate_uk, the independent charity I fund to support victims across our region.

Together, we can send a clear message that hate has no place in Merseyside or modern Britain. 💌 by @merseysidepcc

October is #DomesticAbuseAwarenessMonth and we're sharing Jemma's story to help raise awareness of the realities of domestic abuse and help people recognise behaviours that may otherwise be overlooked, minimised or explained away.

Jemma is a victim-survivor of coercive control and now runs domestic abuse charity @phoenixhealingcic 💜

Coercive and controlling behaviour can be difficult to identify, but it is often at the heart of domestic abuse and can have a devastating impact on those experiencing it.

By speaking openly about her experiences, Jemma is helping to shine a light on the warning signs and red flags of Domestic Abuse, encouraging others to recognise unhealthy behaviours, seek support and know that they are not alone 🤝

📍Listen to part of Jemma's story to learn more about the red flags of domestic abuse. To watch the full video, get information, advice or support for yourself or someone you care about, visit www.merseyside.police.uk/vawg and select the ‘Domestic abuse red flags’ page. by @merseysidepcc

October is Domestic Abuse awareness month 🤝

Throughout this month, I'm working with @MerseysidePolice to raise awareness of the warning signs of domestic abuse, with a particular focus on coercive and controlling behaviour.

Do you ever feel ⬇️

- Belittled or put down?
- That you are changing your behaviour to keep the peace?
- Blamed for the abuse or arguments?
- Isolated from your family and friends?
- Stopped from going to college or work?
- Accused of things you haven’t done?
- Restricted in what you can wear, who you can see, where you can go or what you can think?

You're not to blame for what's happening. You're not alone.

Domestic abuse isn't always between partners. It can also happen within families.

🚩 Our Red Flag campaign was shaped by victim-survivors with lived experience and highlights behaviours that are often dismissed, excused or overlooked can be signs of domestic abuse.

Too often, people experiencing domestic abuse don't recognise the red flags - by helping people spot the warning signs, we can encourage more people to seek support and report abuse when they're ready ❤️

If you feel like you've spotted the 'red flags', please visit the Merseyside Police website to report or for support - whether you report to the police or not - contact Victim Care Merseyside. They are here to help ❤️ by @merseysidepcc
